Re: Towns?
Dundridge has worked out a rumours system that we use for the NPCs in our Murder Inc mystery. The system goes beyond just rumours, btw.Deuce Halsey wrote:There are a lot of potential uses for NPCs. I'm working on model stands that will allow visitors to my store to see how our shirts look on actual avatars.Minethere Always wrote:More need to do NPCs, I know folx out in the Meta using them lots.
Eventually I plan to market the model stands to other merchants who want to display their fashions, avatars or avatar accessories. The only downside
to the NPC model stand technology is that in Kitely only World Owners can execute the NPC script commands. So NPC model stands won't be usable by
tenants in malls unless the world owner is somehow able to rez the model stands for the tenant.

Re: Towns?
My alt can rez the model stands on group-owned land. But she cannot activate them. No error messages, the NPC commands just don't work for non-world owners.Minethere Always wrote:You can rez them on other's worlds, DD did on mine.
According to this Kitely Blog entry the NPC functions of OSSL are limited to World Owners:

My tests in-world confirm this situation.

Re: Towns?
NPCs can take up quite a bit of server resources to run so allowing people other than the world manager to rez them can open the door to very easy griefing.

Re: Towns?
I think that world owners should be allowed to decide who can use those risky functions. A lot of people like to collaborate together, and a lot of the fun functions are disabled for everyone but the world owner in kitely.Ilan Tochner wrote:NPCs can take up quite a bit of server resources to run so allowing people other than the world manager to rez them can open the door to very easy griefing.
I think the world owner should have some mechanism, by group or estate functionality, to designate people they trust as ones allowed to use those functions.

Re: Towns?
Hi Sherrie,
I agree that would be a nice feature to have, but it's not as important as the many other things people are asking us to implement. As that is the case, we have to prioritize.
Once we have sufficient resources, we'll be able to add more features quicker.

Re: Towns?
Although I would say that it's more than just "a nice feature to have" I completely understand that there are a lot of higher priority things to focus on right now. It would be very encouraging indeed to know that it is something that you will be looking at down the road though. To me, enabling world owners to easily collaborate with others is an important feature to consider.Ilan Tochner wrote:Hi Sherrie,

The current website design is for single user accounts. Adding support for group accounts in on our roadmap.

Re: Towns?
Inworld things need to be configured somewhere too. Those types of configurations don't exist in the viewer.
