Photography/machinima contest (cash prizes)

Post by Handy Low »

Hi folks. Just to let you know that a photography and machinima contest has started, with six prizes up to US$250 cash.

The location is hosted on Kitely, and contestants will use the RezMela system provided to create their own scenes easily.

For more information, go here: http://rezmelacomp.wordpress.com/

Hello
Check out this video clip, it illustrates how easy it is to create a situation. Took me half an hour to create, capture, and upload on youtube.

Don't hesitate to submit multiple entries, and our community is really niche, so the chances for you to win something for the competition is really very high.
Good luck everyone (and if money is not what drives you, well we think the process is just fun :) )
Ramesh :D :)

I've been reading the RezMela blog and website. It looks a very interesting system.

I had a play with RezMela. It is easy to use and fun to see the scene building up outside the window.

You can add scenery, buildings, basic infrastructure (roads etc), weather effects, NPCs as single entities or as groups, special effects, ...

This is an impressive piece of work. I'll be going back and trying it out some more.

Thanks Dot Matrix for the encouraging words.
The current library is of course not exhaustive, but we think we will be able to cover a wide area of interests as we progress. Still, there is a large number of possible stories that can be generated.
Just wanted to let you know that there are also at present vehicles that you can drive, e.g. police car, the fire pumper truck, clicking on some of the lights trigger sirens and so on. Left clicking on the fire pumper truck sliding doors reveal equipment that can be picked ... and that gets worn automatically,
the fire hose attaches itself when clicked ...clicking on fire hose nozzle trigger water jets, there's really a lot to discover.
Note also that some of the objects in the house are moveable as well, you can use a long left click to pick a strawberry for e.g. and put it on a plate (just an example), or open the microwave and put it in there etc...
If you have an advanced project, try saving the scenes ... and reload later as well. :D :)

I can see how wonderfully well this system would work for storytelling (ELA). Will there be an empty version of it available in the near future we can fill up with our own objects?

Also, I am happy to see you are presenting the system at the OSCC14 conference. I expect I can get a lot of my questions answered there. Until then I will be going back to play with your "palette and canvas."

Thanks for the kind words Ruby. Yes I do hope I will present, I have submitted my proposal to OSCC2014, I haven't been notified yet. We are definitely working on allowing users to create and inject their own libraries. In fact, if interest in this work increases, this is exactly what should happen.
