What is Kitely?

Kitely provides virtual worlds using OpenSim technology. You can visit virtual worlds that other people have designed, or create your own worlds. Each Kitely account includes one FREE virtual world.

Kitely's virtual worlds can be used for a wide variety of activities: you can make friends, play games, experience immersive art, watch theatrical performances, role play, visit information centers and participate in many other activities. Most worlds are family friendly, but it is also possible to create virtual worlds that are targeted at a more mature audience. Such worlds can only be visited by adult users.

If you're interested in having your own virtual world then Kitely's easy-to-use user interface makes it a snap to get started. It takes just minutes to create your first world, and you can create additional worlds at any time.

If you create your own virtual worlds then Kitely helps protect your investment by making it easy to backup the worlds that you create into industry-standard OpenSim Archive (OAR) files. You can use these OAR files to run the world outside of Kitely: either on your own computer or on some third-party OpenSim hosting service.

If you are a content creator then Kitely protects your content by preventing other people from exporting it from Kitely, except if you choose to allow it. If someone tries to backup an item that you created and haven't authorized for export then that item will be filtered out of the OAR file that they receive. This means that you get the best of both worlds: the strong content protection of a closed grid, with the option to allow widespread use of your content as in an open grid.
