Re: Chicken and Egg
so... loads of eggs around for ages, not enough hatching chickens ? Do we need an incubator ? umm.. This just gave me an idea (note: this is stream of consciousness, so there will probably be many things wrong with this). What if we had an "incubator"? (By this I mean some way to encourage users to...

Re: Undersea observatory. Pre-fab sim. Free. Displayed on Ki
I was the one who originally built the components the undersea structure was made with. It is my "Tube City" construction set (a newer version of it you can see here: http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Paul-Wilson/Tube-City-Demo-World ). I am still working on developing this system further and will...

Re: Far distance flickering surfaces
I used to get this and more graphics glitches when using my laptop (Dell XPS 12 with Intel HD Graphics 4000). However, after the latest driver upgrade and Firestorm upgrade this was fixed (it now looks very good on even this system). So this problem might be fixed by a graphics driver upgrade (if yo...

Re: How many miles....
I like to cam as I build up the overall shape of the terrain, but then go in for a walk as I work on the details. What would be good is if we could hook up a treadmill to the viewer and as we walk on the treadmill it walks in the virtual world. This could give us exercise, but it also could mean we ...

Re: Item Variations
A couple more questions about item variations. I am going to be listing modular building component objects. I want to have a core package (13 objects in the pack) that has the main modules needed, but also want to allow users to have access to variations on each object within that package. Would I n...

Re: Welcome Center: Which worlds to showcase?
Graphics cards are the main component you need to look at for a good system. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 465 card in my desktop, It allows me to run the viewer with the graphics turned all the way up (that is all the sliders at max) and 4x antialiasing. This is how I run it all the time. However, m...

Re: In historic vote, New Zealand bans software patents
I believe that software is still copyrightable, just not patentable. It still allows for procedures and products that have patentable processes in them that are implemented on a computer to still be patentable. One could not make a direct copy of someone else's software, but one would be able to mak...

Re: A Thought On How To Handle Long Load Times
Would it be possible to use a server side script to trigger a particle effect on the avatar when they initiate a TP?
This would get around the hard coded viewer effects, but still allow the users to see a visual notification of a TP in progress.
