Re: Kitely welcome area: What information? How to provide it

Here's a gorgeous example of using signs along pathways to provide basic information for new users: Sri Isodhyana Online.

Ilan was rather taken with this world. It does things that he hopes might be possible in the welcome center.

It's well worth a visit.

Re: Welcome Center: Optimum size?

If you are doing a 3 x 3 region for the welcome area, then it would be better to put the landing area in one of the centre edge locations. This is because it will help to orient people in the virtual space as they would perceive it more as coming from an edge into the larger region. Thank you for t...

Re: Welcome Center: Optimum size?

That's a good thought, Marstol. So it would be sort of like a single region concentrated build in the middle, but the surrounding regions given to landscaping/wilderness/sea? Oh, and I had previously missed this lovely quote from Sarge Misfit: Whether a 2x2 or a 3x3, to me its about the opportunity ...

Re: Welcome Center: Optimum size?

Thanks, all, for the good and lively discussion. There does seem to be consensus that, yes, a megaregion is the way to go. Ada originally was for a single region. Here's her post repeated, which also explains the zen garden concept. As I'm absorbing the opinions on this: The arguments for one sim ar...

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?

Paislee and I quite often chat about builds when we meet up, and today was no exception. She was working on a structure in Ruminations, one that (as it turned out) had been inspired partly by Ilan's vision for the welcome centre . It comprises a set of circular areas linked by curving pathways throu...

Re: Welcome Center: Optimum size?

Thanks, Minethere. You make an eloquent argument for using a megaregion. If that is accepted as a given, the choice is then between a 2x2 and a 3x3. If I can play devil's advocate for a moment, one potential issue with using a megaregion might be the time it takes to get from one place to another wi...

Welcome Center: Optimum size?

The format of the center seems to be crystallising around the idea of a zen garden with modern museum architecture : In any case, my vision ... would be for something which is a zen garden i.e. mostly outdoors and has status/points of interest that convey some idea that may be relevant to some peopl...

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?

As a teleport object, what about using something like the small signs museums and art galleries use by larger exhibits to provide further information? The convention would need to be explained somewhere. Perhaps it could be "learnt by doing", so that the first sign avatars come across after initiall...

Re: Effinjay Live at Virtually Human

Thank you, Allen, and Effinjay -- excellent!

(And my apologies for needing to leave halfway through when RL intervened...)
