Shelenn is setting up a "Gamification Committee" that could well have a very useful input to the welcome center (though, as she says, the committee's focus "is not limited to the new user start region").

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?
In any case, my vision, which may be improved upon, would be for something which is a zen garden i.e. mostly outdoors and has status/points of interest that convey some idea that may be relevant to some people and just pretty to others. However, unlike the Kitely Plaza that is a collection of theme...

Sorry, what do you mean, Dundridge?Dundridge Dreadlow wrote:the Devokan world page stuff does look like a very closed off group though
By the way, I'm not sure I'd describe "Devokan" style as elven. Fantasy with roots in reality, maybe.

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?
Many thanks for the offer, Rikku. I don't think the layout or even size of the welcome centre has been decided yet -- it's all still at the discussion and planning stage. However, once it all gets underway, the sort of landscaping items you mention will be very welcome indeed. Umm... you don't have ...

Re: Content creation guidelines for lag-free worlds
Ener Hax has published a whole sequence of articles on optimising texture use . They are well worth a read, including the comments. Some particularly relevant articles: texture file format size impact how do textures impact the server? texture compromise make textures light in colour for greater fle...

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?
I'm happy to offer textures or avatar components if they're needed or wanted. Thanks for this offer, Ada -- much appreciated! I wonder, too, if you might help us understand how we might build more efficiently. I know you have a lot of expertise in that area. Would you let us pick your brains? This ...

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?
Time for another summary. This is based on some of the discussions at the mentors meeting of 7 August, and has just been confirmed by Ilan. For the time being, the world can be called the Kitely Welcome Center, or KWC for short (the name can be changed at a later date). The KWC will be the recommend...

Re: Kitely welcome area: What does it need to include?
Dot might be relieved that she's not expected to do it "all" and on her own. :) ... To be honest, I can't -- I am not a builder. What I can do (and I hope that this is helpful at this stage) is try to facilitate conversation, sharing and working together, so that the final outcome builds on everyon...
