HOW HIGH CAN WE BUILD?

Post by Katniss Everdeen »

Hi everyone,
apologies if this has been answered, I searched but couldn't find it mentioned in context.
in SL there is a pretty strict build limit at 4096m I believe, here in Kitely/Opensim I have successfully built MUCH higher.. 10,000m and higher even.
Scripts seem fine, Voice seems fine, TPs work (except direct from Map, Map in Viewer only allows up to 4096m to be entered)
Is there a limit to high how we can build and function here?
Are there negative caveats to going high?

Thanks everyone.
May the odds be ever in your favor.

Hi Katniss,

There are viewer rendering issues when rendering at high altitudes (which get more prominent the higher up you go). Please note that anything you build above 1000m will not be included in the Kitely world map.

I have heard it said that one can build up to 10,000m without problems and above that things "start happening". But I don't have specifics. I know that at a certain height the sky gets really funky looking.

I'm a dwagon in real life too. (Ask my sister, who totally agrees.)

Many years ago I did some testing on this subject....
I found that after 10,000m textures that were not at least 1024 x 1024 tended to get a bit blurry...
Everything else seemed ok

Long ago in the early days of Elf Clan, the group developed an anti-griefer Elven Bow for our Elite Guards that would instantly blast an offending avatar 140,000m into the sky. At that height the avatar itself warps, the sky does things that resemble sentient activity... and it literally takes 30 minutes to fall back to the ground. Mwahahahahaa...

Hi da Krull! I'm in-world at random times. Usually I can be found either on Wellspring or Tessin (more likely Wellspring). But if I'm in-world I'll show up on your Friends list.

Back in the early days of SL a friend who is ex-Air Force and I tried skydiving from that height. You're right about how distorted and long it took to fall that far. (Now, I've got to find those pics...)
