Terrain Maps and Textures
Hi, I'm new to OpenSim and am just reading that you can import terrain maps to set terrain heights and also textures for different heights. Is this possible with Kitely?

Welcome, Sammie!
Yes, you can import terrain maps and change the terrain textures for different heights here in Kitely.

Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me how to do this? The instructions I've seen seem to be suggesting editing an ini file, but I don't know where that would be (I would assume on the Kitely server).

This would require you to download, and understand, some aspects of opensim.Sammie Smit wrote:Thanks for the reply. Could you tell me how to do this? The instructions I've seen seem to be suggesting editing an ini file, but I don't know where that would be (I would assume on the Kitely server).
You can run your own soas [sim on a stick] and when you run the opensim console you can do many commands, such as those you mention here.
You can then take those terrains into your kitely worlds via your viewer estate tools.
It is a bit techy and has a bit of a learning curve.

Hi Sammie,
In Firestorm, go to the World menu and select Region Details.
This will open the Region/Estate window, inside of which please select the Terrain tab.
Now click the Upload RAW terrain button.
Once it completes uploading and you're happy with the result click the Bake terrain button.

Re: Terrain Maps and Textures
Just tried uploading a raw file via the interface, I get the following message:
"There was an IO Exception loading your terrain. Please check free space."

Hi Sammie,
I suggest you retry and don't do anything else inworld while you wait for the RAW file to complete the upload process.

Re: Terrain Maps and Textures
I have tried a few times, I was not doing anything else. It does upload, it then says "loading' and gives the error.
I am using a raw file created in Photoshop, should this work?
