Hi Zed,
You may want to consider getting a Kitely Organization (virtual grid) instead of using a third-party grid for your children's needs. You'll then be able to create Managed User accounts for your children and have a lot more control and oversight over what they can do and who they can interact with than you get with a regular OpenSim grid.
