I went somewhat mad and purchased a Leap Motion despite a lot of lukewarm reviews. I have a specific use in mind sometime in the future but for the moment I'm just playing around and trying to get a better feel for its limitations. I note that there's a Firefox debug setting that enables the Leap in various modes -- anyone got that to work with OpenSim?
http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-9166
I've also played a little with HandWAVE which is a free app that translates a small number of gestures into their system keyboard equivalent (there's a more complex paid-for version called GameWAVE as well). This seemed to work OK with a slightly modified version of the last script at http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=control so I could move a prim up and down depending on how I inclined my hand over the Leap.
Anyone got any useful insights for a novice (apart from don't buy one)?

Re: Leap Motion
The Firestorm situation for Leap Motion may be that it is currently disabled: http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-12826
I am continuing to explore use of the free HandWAVE app which seems the best way forward at the moment. I suspect Leap Motion support in some fashion may reappear if the Lab and/or TPVs decide to support OSVR http://osvr.com/ (I haven't checked but I assume HiFi has support; it is also already signed-up to OSVR). I'm still a bit vague on the need for reduced ambient lighting which may limit its usefulness.
Mapping an xbox controller is another option but not quite what I was looking for originally. http://www.lokieliot.com/blog/?p=1843

Re: Leap Motion
This level editor will likely be a commercial tool eventually and it is somewhat Unity3D-oriented. However, it's not impossible to imagine it hooked into an OpenSim workflow. If you delve into the blog they identify some Leap limitations.

Re: Leap Motion
Here's another Rift/Leap-based Unity project that gives an idea of what's possible, this time for animation editor. Notice that the Leap isn't 100% accurate.
