Importing Objects

Post by Shandon Loring »

I am attempting to import full perm object linkset that I created.
I've had no problem in the past, but something funky seems to be going on now.

Firestorm Viewer
Build>Upload>Import Linkset...
select/open object (in this case Dog_Sled.oxp)
click Open
X-Do Not Attach Object
-Restore Region Position
X-Upload
click Import
system reports Finished importing

But.. i see nothing in the region
Area Search reports object exists in region, but i can not see it.
If I Edit it from Area Search it is selected, but it is still not visible.
I have tried changed texture of entire object back and forth between 0% - 100% Transparency - no help
I have taken the object into inventory and re-rezzed, still no help.
Have tried on more than one imported object on more than one region, including Kitely Merchant Sandbox, in fact there is an non-visible object there right now called Dog Sled and one called Sculpted Wolf that you can find with World Area Search, but they have no substance or visibility.
These objects are currently sitting at:
hop://grid.kitely.com:8002/Kitely%20Merchants%20Sandbox/228/202/22
and
hop://grid.kitely.com:8002/Kitely%20Merchants%20Sandbox/225/200/22

I've imported objects many times, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.
I have full perms on these objects, I created them.
Happy to hand someone the .oxp files if that will help.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi Shandon,

What graphics quality setting are you using? What's your LOD set to and does the item appear if you get really close to it?

Nope, never can see it..
Brought in alt, they can't see it either.
Will try on different computer and report back.
Both items are still in the Kitely Merchant Sandbox

Thanks Ilan

Hi Shandon,
If something can't be seen inworld at once, sometimes it is good to go to wireframe mode and see it the you see the geometry of the object like this.
To get to wireframe in Fs and if I have it well same for singularity press: control + shift + r
Hope this helps
Cheers,
Zed

Ps for the transfer to other grids subject: I need a little bit of time to dig that out only limited time now.

Well that was hugely annoying and time wasting...
Cleared cache and all the 'standard' stuff. Still no joy.
Did a "Clean Install" of Firestorm.. i mean completely uninstalled and really wiped everything..
Reinstalled, still no joy.

Then discovered I was running the Beta6.0 version of Firestorm Viewer, which by the way is the default download from Firestorm.org.
You have to dig back a few links to get the last Release Version, which is 5.1.7.55786
Got THAT installed, now I can see my stuff.
So.. me or the Viewer?? Beats me. This is why I try to avoid 'beta' stuff, but the Firestorm site does not by default show a Stable version and a beta version, it only shows the beta version.

Anywho... maybe this will help someone else? Or maybe there was just some odd particle of weirdness tunneling through the earth and zapping one of my computers. Dunno.. i ain't going to reload the silly Beta version to find out though!

Thanks for your help!

Hi Shandon,

When you cleared the viewer cache, were you logged into the Kitely grid then cleared both the viewer cache and the viewer inventory cache?

(There are two buttons in Viewer > Preferences > Network & Files > Directories . You need to press both the "Clear Cache" button and the "Clear Inventory Cache" button then restart your viewer)

yes sir, sure did.
followed Jessica Lyons "Clean Install" video too, but was still borked until I removed beta6 and installed FS 5.1.7.55786
not positive that was the fix, but it's working now, and i don't think it was Kitely.. just weirdness I guess.
Thank you sir.
(oh, and i can now see the objects i created yesterday in the Kitely Merchants Sandbox that I couldn't see before.
