What do others think about kitely plaza ?

Hello wanted to ask what others had thought about kitely plaza?

Here is my thoughts just as feedback I think kitely is great and inexpensive with a lot of new things never offered but after visiting kitely plaza its left me wondering what's going on?
Is it an artist exhibit I mean what's going on with it I can see people put a lot of time and love in it but if you ever expected to get creators from secondlife or opensim why would you build something that looks like its not a welcome center / Venders area as no way can I open a store in that place and why? I want not only my customers to be impressed with my work but also want to impress them with the stores surroundings also as a welcome center its confusing and poorly designed and the textures kept my head spinning as if fred flintstone was the project designer.

so I feel how do you take kitely serious when its welcome center looks like its not being taking serious .
if we compared to Avination , Inworldz , Osgrid and so forth and really I mean as a commercial grid this sould be the flagship of the grid as the first impression new visitors get also if I hurt anyone's feelings just imagine mine when I was told by all those I referred here to open a shop that the place looked cheap and built by noobs and would be unlikely they give it another visit.

Ok if I am missing something or my impressions and reasons of that place are wrong please let me know I will change the post and can admit to being misguided in my general outlook and I can change views and see others views
but I am glad I went to my world first and started my dreams and ideas for my land as if I had went to that place first I would not be here as for me selling in kitely looks like only in my own sim but not sure everyone will choose that option or want to as well

I like kitely and its founders seem nice also I love the prices so far only thing I don't like is the Frankenstein welcome center I wonder if I am alone on this view?

To be productive turn the welcome center into a kitely Art Fest 2013 and build a new welcome center that's also looks like opensim 2013 that is done with a plan and blueprint and please dont have a welcome center always under construction that makes the place look unstable this was my feedback and suggestions

I don't like the Plaza, but I thought it was just me. I assumed it was what everyone else wanted.

Well, the Plaza WAS created by sl folx, actually...lol

Bladyblue, who was the overall organizer, got some folx in, talked to others, made an overall design plan, and her and Ilan then made it happen.

There has been much talk over time in various places in these forums as to the lag issues there. Personally, I have never had much of an issue in that regard worth mentioning.

I like the variety of builds there and think the folx who contributed did, overall, a nice job.

I do not think it was designed with noobs in mind, however, as it is not optimized for new arrivals in some regards, as has been pointed out in these forums, the textures.

As far as I know the scripts are much more in control now though.

I, too, would not wish to step on the toes of those who contributed to it, in any regard...but I do think some other place, or perhaps, a platform above it, could be more designed with a noob's eye.

As to exemplifying other grids landing areas for noobs...the best one I know of that specifically considered new arrivals in the one in 3rd Rock grid....designed primarily by Linda Kellie.

What they did was several things...they reused textures, they made it simple and yet elegant, they moved additional useful items such as complete avatars and a walkabout teaching area, off to the side and at a distance that was out of the initial default draw distance that most use...and large builds with additional items for noobs were placed in adjacent regions with paths going to them, such as a commercial mall the grid offers for free, a sandbox, and a freebie mall.

Very well designed and I mention it as much as I can as an example of well thought out design with the noob in mind.

But, personally, overall, I like to see people use their imaginations in these welcome areas, sometimes things have to be weighed with what one gets to what one wants in a perfect world, of which there is not....lol

I like some of the plaza, there are some nice builds, and obviously quite a lot of work has gone into it

However, some the different styles don't blend well together, the quality varies quite substantially, spending time there some of the areas look unfinished.

I don't want to tread on any toes after so much work has been done, but I would have done things very differently. Moving stuff around might help.

When I came to Kitely Plaze the first times it looked ok as an entry point to quickly find out how the plans work and how to get a region. Looking around I felt - well - that it looked like being under construction still and the function as a center point for newbies in Kitely would develop over time. However over the last 4 month - as long as I'm in Kitely now - I didn't observe progress (only exception is that problems with access-time/lag got much better now ). Obviously the idea of instructors and learning groups advertised there are not functional (there is no entry in the teaching class calender).
If you think about what should attract people to come to the plaza - except that the stay is free of charge -
shops : no development there - nearly all are not build or empty
chat: hard to meet anyone these times at the plaza
help: not easy to find someone for that, as plaza is mostly deserted
fancy things to see or to do: well - you take the tour around once and that's it.Some of the builds are nice - however not in operation (like the cat theater, the catwalk, the learning center etc)
music or video: nope
information about Kitely beyond very initial facts: no
I agree with Jewel - this is not the way to attract people to the Plaza ... to make them like to come back and to make them curious about Kitely !

The different themes there are pretty cool, and lots of fun builds ... but to me, with so many different themes smashed together in one place, it feels sort of messy. It reminds me of being on mainland SL, where a sci-fi region is next to a victorian region, next to a race track. It's hard to get truly immersed in the victorian surroundings when a big space station is hovering over the neighboring region, and vice versa, so everyone uses big screen prims to try to block out regions next door. As a visitor walking through, it's a bit jarring.

I had imagined kitely plaza as a single-themed clean and simple build, in which the inside of the stores (rather than the outside) would be themed according to the store owner's style.

That was never the design intended for the Plaza Sherrie...somewhere here there is the discussions about how the Plaza was to be done.

In any case, I personally don't have any issues with it and only comment because others do.

I get that. The OP was asking what others thought about the plaza. I gave my perspective.

Another thing that could be considered, though, is to build a simple structure at the landing spot that obscures the viewer from having to render all the various textures when they first rez in.

So they rez in and see the signs, and then decide if they wish to go out the door and see the rest.

Some simple building that just includes the signs and stuff there...just a thought.
