I'm very much in favour of this. While I do like to greet people and say goodbye to them, it really does interrupt the flow of larger meetings - so many times someone asks a question or makes a good point, which is then lost when someone arrives immediately afterwards and the chat is swamped with greetings.Dot Matrix wrote:We'd also need to discipline ourselves with the greetings and leavings -- would it cause too much lag if those were done in a group chat box, so that local chat could be reserved for the meeting itself? (I'm thinking of the poor souls who later need to make sense of a 90+ minute chat log.)

I agree -- person to person communications--greetings, good byes, WBs, and private chats should be taken to private IMs.

As a quick fix, I've added 18 more seats to the current 24, to increase the total to 42.
We could think about better solutions for Stage 2.

I think the nearest ground is outside the 20m area.Serene Jewell wrote:People can also sit on the ground, yes?

Ilan's announcements could go in a notecard to the Kitely Community group. Some activities might be dealt with by a subgroup, as is the case with the Grand Hunt and KWC future.

Doing greetings in a group chat box is genius and would cut down on meeting clutter. Maybe someone could make a group for Kitely weekly meetings if one doesn't exist and we could try it out.
Also, kudos to the people who work on the Kitely Welcome Center. It looks great. There are more seats now. They all seem to work. You people rock! I'm sure new versions will have even more improvements, but congrats on the KWC.

Re: KWC 1.3: what needs doing
The Kitely weekly meetings are functioning like a Kitely Chamber of Commerce, so if a group were formed specifically for the meetings, I would recommend that name as carrying a generally recognized and appropriately descriptive term. That name might suggest other projects the group might undertakeSerene Jewell wrote:Doing greetings in a group chat box is genius and would cut down on meeting clutter. Re: KWC 1.3: what needs doing
The meetings really are meant to be open to all -- they are Community meetings, not Chamber of Commerce or Mentors or anything else like that.
The problem I see with making a special group is that it could be regarded as elitist and excluding, and thereby convey the wrong message.
Why not simply use the existing Kitely Community group chat for this purpose? It will also serve to alert others to the fact that the meeting is taking place.

I'm with Dot on this one. Folks who attend the meetings do the work of the whole Kitely community, not just chamber of commerce type work.
