stuffs
I had an opportunity to fully explore the new top colliders fix today. It is interesting to see such things in opensim.
One item was a floor which I couldn't figure out why....I had heard in the past a large floor has collision issues but even if that is true, [and I don't recall the reasons] this floor was not large, I think it's like 30x30 or so. I may not fully understand what colliders are too....in fact, this is likely...lol
The other couple of items were of no real consequence, so mainly just reporting I like it.
Interestingly, items I had thought would show up, did not...odd. The new region I just imported is quite big on some scripting too, and there are all sorts of things on it, including several offsim builds.
And I still L.O.V.E.!! the export report...for what I do it is extremely useful. Nobody else does such things and I do thank you for that.
I also wanted to take a moment to make a suggestion. I try to pick these carefully as I do not like to divert things from my main focus, HG for avies....but, I dropped into the merchant's sandbox earlier and there was a ton of stuff at the landing point, such that it made my rez in rather annoying from normal there.
Might I suggest the landing point be parceled out and nobuild? Maybe even add some instructive nc givers and such? I often land, pull up the map and go to a far corner of the mega but landing is required, sooooooooooooooooooooo
Also, anything happening on the added regions for the welcome region? I was a bit enthused about the 2x2 [even tho I wanted a 3x3, and still do....lol]
thx, for, being, you, all.................

Re: stuffs
I don't really use the Merchant Sandbox anymore since between Donnybrook Beach and my Grandpa Silver account I have tons of my own worlds to experiment and build in. But I do recall back when I used the Merchant Sandbox regularly that the arrival point could be a nightmare on occasion. Once I had to "gth 100" to get out of the box some genius had constructed around the arrival point. I fully support the idea of a small (20x20m, 30x30m) no-build zone at the arrival point there.
As far as the Welcome Center, making it at 2x2 world would be an excellent idea. There really should be more freebies there, particularly more avatar choices of the General type. I'm not suggesting a full-range freebie mall - few brand new avatars will need furniture immediately, for example. But nearly all new avatars will need a decent shape, skins, other avatar add-ons (of a general nature) and of course a basic wardrobe to get started in their new lives in Kitely.
I'm certain that Kitely merchants would be willing to donate a few basic items towards such an effort if the decision is made to expand the Welcome Center. I will go on record here by pledging to donate a few full-perms casual shirts/t-shirts to such an effort. (Any designs and/or text on the shirts would be G-rated.)
Edited to Add: Although these are good ideas, I would not want to distract Ilan and Oren away from their work on implementing HG deliveries from the Kitely Market and then HG travel for avatars. Those two efforts should come first.

Re: stuffs
For the expanded Welcome Center, couldn't that be a community-led effort with occasional input from Kitely to keep it on track? That is more or less what happened when the current single-region center was developed.
There isn't the time pressure as there was back then. We had to meet a fixed deadline, so had to make compromises to ensure the work was done in time.
As I've said several times in the past, I was happy to help with the current welcome center, but feel that someone else needs to coordinate any expanded version.

Re: stuffs
I can't personally, [ergh, what is the darn word I am looking for!!! eta: obligate...lol] give myself to such things, but I had thought it was already being done...I guess I could go find the thread on it.Dot Matrix wrote:For the expanded Welcome Center, couldn't that be a community-led effort with occasional input from Kitely to keep it on track? In any case, the 2x2 could be allocated and I would happily contribute any of my terrains [see my sig] just to put land mass down while others work on the content and such. I think I could offer some real time to go in and terraform the chosen ones further, if absolutely needed.
I did such a thing for 3rd Rock grid once but my energy levels are much less now, but I could try if I get very defined needs given to me so I can go in when I am feeling good enough on my own time.
So, if someone wishes to coordinate this, at least from the land standpoint, just PM me here for which ones they want and tell me how I may get the files to them.
I would love to see the project progress in some fashion, and land is the basis...lol

Re: stuffs
ok, here is another todo...lol
I had wondered if maybe covenants worked yet as I had not tried them anyplace in a while.
Apparently they still do not, soooooooooooooooo....maybe it is not an easy fix, or maybe nobody has much cared to fix it, or maybe it's just not all that important.
and eta: yes, you can put one in but when you relog it ain't there, at least to my Astra viewer...

Re: stuffs
I'd like to see 3x3 with the current Build in the middle or something to give plenty of expansion, but there are lots of other ideas floating around. Standing by..

Re: stuffs
Whether we go with a 2x2 world or a 3x3 world, I'm thinking there should be two "starter paths" available from - and clearly marked at - the arrival point. Each of these starter paths would be designed to serve one of the main communities that new Kitely users will belong to:
1) New Residents who have experience in SL or other OpenSim grids.
These folks already know the basics of navigating a virtual world and don't need instruction on walking, flying and basic communication in world. They will need to acquire a starter G-rated avatar and clothing setup. They will also need to learn about important worlds for beginners in Kitely - the Freebie Malls, Gathering Places, etc. Emphasis would obviously be on worlds that are accessible to residents with free basic accounts.
2) New Residents who are trying a virtual world for the first time.
These people will need everything explained to them. How to walk, how to fly, how to talk to people around them, how to right click on a user and see their profile, etc. Once they have that basic training completed, they would be funneled into the Type 1 Starter Path and be able to outfit themselves with an interesting G-rated avatar and a starter wardrobe.
Apart from these formal starter paths, the Welcome Center should still offer meeting areas of varying sizes for Community Meetings, and for any less formal meetings that residents may choose to have there. We might also want to include a small sandbox on the Welcome Center world with basic instructions on how to build. Or if security proves too much of an issue, there could be a separate Starter Sandbox world with building instructions included.
