My apologies, but I won't be able to be there right at the start of the meeting -- I will be at a RL meeting instead.

Part of the discussion at the meeting was which key selling points should be included on the main page.

Ilan said there could be 9 to 12 points (headings) with a short sentence expanding on the point. There should be no links to an external page for expanded explanations.

Possible headings:

Ease of Use
Flexible Account Plans - Great Value
Superior Technical Support
Hypergrid Enabled Marketplace
Automated Data Backups
Powerful Servers in Amazon's Cloud
Open Source - No Vendor lock-in

Any other ideas? The text needs to be settled ASAP. Like today (12 hours from the time of posting).

Hey hey,

My comments about the selling points:

Flexible Account Plans - Great Value - good
Superior Technical Support - good
Hypergrid Enabled Marketplace - do people know what that meane, mayby talk about connecting all open sim worlds?
Automated Data Backups - isnt that what serious businesses always should do?
Powerful Servers in Amazon's Cloud - does the user care about the location of the servers?
Open Source - No Vendor lock-in - what is a vendor lock-in?

- What about the megaregions and the amount of prime, value for money?
- What about the speed of the servers
- What about the users?
- What about backing up to your local PC and relaoding into Kitely?
- What about OAR and IAR?
- What about setting yourself free of the SL chains
- What about pioneering and building a brave new world?
- I can go on for some time...

Please keep this thread alive.

Ami

Choice - choose to keep your place private, share with friends, or share your creation with the world
Freedom - build as much as you like, as big as you like, or buy a little house from the marketplace

Some thoughts ...
Dot Matrix wrote:Hypergrid Enabled Marketplace
I think this could be split into two:

Hypergrid Enabled
Home of Kitely Market

This would show that Hypergrid is available for TPing as well, and still includes Kitely Market (which I know Ilan wants to reference somewhere here).

It is "Market", correct? Not ""Marketplace"?

If we want to add more than (say) 9 of these (for example the points Ami has mentioned), how about having an area that shows one of these additional points at a time, cycling through them every three or four seconds? I think if they're made into images (text on a background) they could be blended so they fade into one another (less jarring), but I don't know much about Javascript, etc. Somehow, we must avoid the "wall of text" look if we can.

I do think that this page should be aimed primarily at the casual, individual user. Organisations and advanced users should be able to find information easily but they won't particularly mind if it's not presented on the very first page they see. I do think that linking to another page with more information should be considered, even if it does take people away from that big button at the top. If people go to the trouble of following a link like that, I'm sure they'll hit the back button (or another link, or another copy of the button) if they want to sign up. Let's keep this page clean, attractive and professional-looking and not daunting.

I think she was referring to the OAR backup, but if not, I would.

Vendor, and, really, all users here, benefit from the openness that Kitely offers that is different from all of the sl clone grids.

It is more in tune with the direction this is all going now, that of transparency and openness and giving people the tools to be more free than the old business model allows.

Even though saving the OARs to your computer has some perms limitations, it is still very nice they offer it here and, of course, it should be mentioned if the content is all yours or full perm or has the export perm then the entire region can be saved.

The problem for this is how to get that message out to those who have never heard of such a thing and cannot wrap their minds around just this part of what Kitely does, and how freeing it is for people, and how it removes many of the restraints and limitations the sl clones do in their attempts [which will not last much longer] to keep people and content locked into their grids.

Locking people in adds all sorts of stresses on people that comes out in many negative regards, and only serves the limited visions of the self-serving grid owners who do such a thing to their users, and only perpetuates a failing business model that more and more people are actually opening their eyes to see that SL started and others have continued with the free opensource opensim software.

To my mind, this is a very important thing to highlight in some regards, and not only the export but the import...tho, of course, not all, but one of the top things they do here to give people options.

However, I also expect some others will copycat this in some regards also, since they are people who lack vision they have to follow, rather than lead...which is cool as the world needs followers and the leaders are always fewer in number.

Wow, that was fun writing that!!!

If headings are intended for non-IT non-geek average users, it has to be simple and clear.

Hypergrid Enabled Marketplace - if user does not know what hypergrid is, is he patient enough to read all 3 words? What about Market as a first word?
Market with Hypergrid Delivery
Market - Hypergrid Delivery

Free uploads of everything are important for new users
Megaregions
Regions from 0,0x USD/month maybe Regions with flexible price

For header - menu:

Explore Worlds is to long and maybe confusing. Average users do not find worlds, they know region/sim. Snap judgement - Explore Worlds does not mean explore Kitely and it does not mean to search in Kitely. Explore or Search is better for them. If user know principle of hypergrid and when Kitely will be hypergrided, Explore Worlds can evoke exploring all hypergrided grids, not Kitely.
