Kitely Market to Support High Fidelity

Kitely Market was designed from the beginning to be a multi-platform marketplace. To that end, a year ago we announced our content liberation front initiative for helping Second Life content creators prepare their content for sale to buyers outside of Second Life. At that time Kitely Market only worked inside the Kitely grid, but a few months later we expanded its scope significantly by allowing sales to avatars on any Hypergrid-enabled OpenSim grid. Today we’re announcing our intention to expand the scope of Kitely Market even further: Kitely Market will support delivery to the next-generation virtual worlds platform High Fidelity, once that system becomes mature enough to accept deliveries.

Congrats. If HiFi grows as large as SL is, that could be a huge opportunity for Kitely Market Merchants.

Does that mean objects and scripts will be the same ???
I thought HF would be a whole new thing with no compatibility to whatever exists now
Anyway, good news, that means we can go on building stuff and it will work on HF also but it also means that HF will be just another grid not so different and not so revolutionary, otherwise it would require a whole new way to build and script

Hi Carlos,
Scripting in High Fidelity is completely different and will not be compatible with LSL scripts written for OpenSim / Second Life.
High Fidelity objects are mesh-based so mesh-based objects developed for OpenSim should work as is. There are reliable tools that convert sculpties to meshes, so those should be transferable as well. There are even tools that convert prim-based objects to meshes but those are still not developed enough to be reliable for automated transfer of OpenSim content to High Fidelity.
OpenSim and High Fidelity are not compatible systems so I wouldn't expect you to be able to travel between them like you can between OpenSim grids (unless the OpenSim developer community works on adding support for that). However, some of the content that was created for OpenSim (specifically mesh and sculptie based content) will be transferable to High Fidelity and that is what we'll be focusing on when High Fidelity becomes a viable delivery target for Kitely Market.

I see that Philip Rosedale is giving a keynote at the forthcoming OpenSim Community Conference -- which seems a little odd in some ways but maybe he will talk about interoperability

Oh, I see, its very useful to hear about that, its more than I could find on recent articles about HF technicalities, so focusing on mesh and sculpt would be better for actual merchants but I guess scripting will demand a different learning curve
Anyway, my Homebase will always be Kitely and I hope my huge London soon becomes a Flagship for Opensim, cheers

High Fidelity seems to get closer to real - they got a 11 m$ funding and can move along with more emphasis now:

What will be required for items in Kitely Market to get them to HF ? What will happen to scripts, animations and avi-object interaction - any idea?

Hi Min,
First and foremost, High Fidelity will need to have an avatar inventory system implemented before we can deliver items to it.
LSL scripts will not be portable.
Animations will depend on the avatar skeletal model.
Meshes will be transferable but prims may or may not be automatically converted into meshes (depending on whether or not we decide there is sufficient business justification to spend the time to implement that feature).
Mesh objects can be held by High Fidelity avatars.

Hi there. See this is an old thread but wondering if this is still planned. I was over in the HiFi alpha and uploading mesh there is completely different than in OS, not the same format or even close -- at this point anyway.
So is this still being thought about?

Yes Chic, we're aware of the mesh format differences and we still plan to support High Fidelity once that architecture is mature enough.
