Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
Very slick and futuristic design, Dot! They worked fine for me too; the only change I would make is saying something like "momentarily" in lieu of "in a few minutes" on the sign since the latter sounds like longer to me, lol.

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
Thanks, Adagio!
The sign comes from Ilan. Personally I would keep "in a few minutes", just to allow for those of us with not-so-optimised regions*
By the way, if anyone would like to make a texture (1024x1024) for the skysphere over the next couple of days, we could try them out and see what works best.
One stipulation: the texture must be full perms and fully your own. For example, the current textures are developed within Genetica and covered by the "Paying Customer" licence/terms of use, so I'm confident about using them.
* Yes, yes, Ilan and Oren, I know. They will get optimised and the sculpties phantomised -- eventually. I keep getting distracted. Sorry!

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
I made one Dot, along with some spacecraft metals, and a moon surface, all from NASA photos that are in the public domain. I'll hand them to you and Ilan inworld. If you like them, use them , if not, I'll put them up at the marketplace or something.

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
Dennis Albion has supplied a classy nebula starfield texture as another possible option for the skysphere. You can see it here:

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
During the Kitely Mentors Meeting on 3 April 2013, further tweaks were made to the station. It was requested that an animated seamless starscape be used. Ada Radius has subsequently provided four starscape textures for consideration, and these are now in place for viewing. Dennis Albion's nebula is also available: this was the version the meeting liked best, but which will need further tweaks (yet to come).

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
Thanks for putting so many choices together Dot, Ada and Dennis.
1. Didn't do much for me. Maybe if the stars were bigger so they seemed closer?
2 & 4 were the most interesting. I liked the added depth of 2 a lot. I am fond of the added color that comes from the nebula in 4.
3. Seemed the most realistic to me. As if I were actually travelling through a star field.

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
Thanks, Marstol!
Dennis has come back with a new texture, combining a delicate starfield with some nebulas. In a note he commented "i'm not crazy about the nebulas i've embedded, may need some transparency to make them more ethereal" -- so see this as work in progress.

Re: Revisiting the transfer station design
Thank you Dot for your hard work and patience! I am hugely delighted that the process did NOT resemble the old 70's joke about the tree swing (http://www.businessballs.com/treeswing.htm ). Mentors rock. (btw, you don't have to be tactful, I don't care if Dennis' or my texture ends up in the final version, and I don't think he does either - just want it to work, and after the last meeting, I think it really does)
