Event HUD? Centralised event system?

The Kitely Community Meeting on 1 February 2015 discussed how to support those setting up events in Kitely, and how to make sure people knew they were on.
Some of the ideas the group came up with are summarised in Getting the word out: publicising events and worlds; these are things that individuals and small groups can do.
We also discussed "blue-sky" ideas that might require Kitely input. It is understood that this would be added to an already too-long to-do list. Nevertheless, it might be worth recording the ideas, just in case some of the coders among the community can develop something that helps.
Paislee sparked this part of the discussion:
So... the idea is to have a event calendar/HUD that updates itself, with a link to a webpage if needed.
As for the first part of Paislee's comments, that there is nothing obviously promoting events and event venues in the Kitely Welcome Center, might there be a case for looking again at the area next to the landing point with the big noticeboard that ties in with Dundridge's inworld event system? It is a great shame that it's not being used as originally intended. (The smaller boards feed automatically to the larger one.)

Selby pointed out that "Inworld just reaches people already here. Web can reach people that have not heard of us." Paislee responded that both are important, inworld and web.Paislee wrote:Hmm...we have a marketplace...but really nothing here [in the Kitely Welcome Center] for Entertainment Venues. To promote them I don't think calendars are enough. Especially since those activities vary widely. It's a communication problem. Here in the welcome center we have: Marketplace (Hall of Merchants) and Featured Worlds, but only an Event Calendar for Entertainment and Social Events.
So, I'll go back to my inserted comments...about needing a more efficient and painless (for the end user) method of showcasing what IS available. A centralized [inworld] system that’s easy to use. Divided into categories. So people don't have to scroll through a long calendar, but can find the type of [event they are looking for]. Handy for end users. Available everywhere.
Here's another thing I'd like to see if possible: Pics from events inworld in a central location...
This idea was met with general enthusiasm -- including from Dundridge, who has already created an inworld event displayboard system. He asked what should be visible on the HUD.Paislee wrote:If I'm inworld and building the last thing I want to do is go look at a webpage and then have to write on my calendar on paper or electronic device..the date and time etc. It would be fantastic to be able to have a device I could use inworld to find out available events.
I want a HUD. An entertainment HUD. A wearable entertainment device.
Dot suggested keeping it simple: "What if the HUD simply changes colour to alert an event; then you click the hud and the info is delivered in chat?"Leela wrote:name of the event, name of the SIM, short description of the event, and photo texture of the event and the username of the host and of course the times the event happens
