Upgrading Kitely’s Database Infrastructure to support large events

Post by Ilan Tochner »

We’ve been getting a lot of new interest from organizations recently, who want to use Kitely to replace some of their large in-person gatherings. So we decided to improve our ability to handle events with tens of thousands of concurrent users.

This major upgrade to our capabilities requires that we take down the entire system for 6 hours on April 17 at 12:01am PDT (midnight).

Just for clarity, presumably you mean thousands of users across multiple worlds at the same time rather than thousands of users in each world? Will you be announcing features such as automated load balancing, inc cloning of worlds (which I dimly recall was on the roadmap previously).

Hi Graham,

We're currently focused on supporting large events by dividing people into multiple worlds. Details of the features that will enable quick and easy creation and management of such events will be announced as we roll them out. As mentioned in our last Kitely community meeting, these features will be based on solutions we developed for our Organizations offering.

I don't understand one thing... Let´s say I want to make a concert for 1000 people...

I hire the performers and setup a stage on my world...

How can these 1000 people participate on the same concert ? They have to be on the same world, right ?

Puzzled here...

Hi Carlos,

We haven't announced the details of how large events will work, we just announced that we're upgrading our infrastructure to enable us to support them. Once we announce the details of this new offering your question will be answered.
