New! Get a huge 64-region Kitely world running on its own ALWAYS-ON dedicated server for just $149.95/month

Post by Ilan Tochner »

Ever since we launched Kitely, people have been asking us for an option to keep their worlds always on. So today we're happy to announce our new Dedicated Server world type, which is always on (except for maintenance) and can be up to 64 regions in size!

Each Dedicated Server world is as big as four of our Advanced Worlds combined. As the name implies, each Dedicated Server world is hosted on its own always-on dedicated server that doesn't share server resources with any other world. This ensures that Dedicated Server worlds will provide you with great performance and delay-free teleports.

Dedicated Server worlds are Kitely's biggest and fastest worlds. Learn more here.

Is that a dedicated physical or virtual server?

Hi Gregg,

Each Dedicated Server world gets its own AWS (Amazon Web Services) EC2 Large server.

Would this possibly open the way in the future to enabling two Always On 64 region worlds with the same owner to be placed next to each other?

Yes Arton, but only if we get enough people ordering Dedicated Server worlds and asking for this feature.

Okays! And now we see implementation that covered two resident wishes: megaworlds and always-ons. Two birds with one stone! Woot!

So that brings natural-to-mind questions:

1) Is Kitely considering reviving not-always-on megaregions for $99?

2) Is Kitely considering always-on Advance and single regions?

3) If two always-on megaworlds are placed next to each other (mentioned above as a possibility), would they be on the same server or separate servers? Would there be a world-crossing line between them or would they be joined as one huge double-megaworld?

I'm not a land-owner, just an assistant-developer. But I figured I'd voice the questions that would eventually get asked anyway, :D

Hi Snoots,

We aren't considering to bring back on-demand Mega Worlds. Similarly, we aren't planning to offer always on worlds for a cheaper price point than what we charge for Dedicated Servers. In other words, if you want a world that is bigger than our Advanced World option, has more resources, or is always on then get a Dedicated Server world.

I can't really say how we'll decide to implement joining multiple Dedicated Server worlds at this time. We'll need to see how many people order them and how many people request that feature before we investigate what option would make the most sense.
