I've often thought that feature would be useful. Possibly that would be best done on the website as it's the fastest-access to make such a check. It could be on the Viewer splash page, but the Viewer takes longer to load than the Kitely website and there's already a great deal of stuff on the Viewer splash. (Of course, once we're in-world it's easy to see if our friends are online.)
