Special Deal for Discounted Mega Worlds

We are happy to announce that we’re making Kitely Mega Worlds available again! Mega Worlds are a type of huge world that we made available for a limited time four years ago. Following our recent performance upgrades that sped up world startup times, we decided it was time to bring them back. Mega Worlds are giant VarRegions that can be up to 64 regions in size, hold up to 150,000 prims, and get a dedicated server of their own whenever they are active.

Update (Sep 1, 2024): several educators have asked to be able to order after the school year has started. To accommodate their request, we've decided to extended the offer until September 15. Only 10 more people will be able to take advantage of this deal, and there will be no more extensions after this.

Hey illan, I'm considering this offer. I have a bunch of smaller regions and want to know if it's possible to add at least one of my other worlds to the mega world? otherwise, it would be a ton of work to do to move them

Hi Kimm,

Yes, you can change the world type of one of your existing worlds to be a Mega World (in its Manage World dialog) then change its world size to make it bigger.

Following our recent performance upgrades that sped up world startup times, we decided it was time to bring them back.

Do you have any estimate how fast a startup time we should expect? I had to wait for more than a minute last time I logged on and then of course another minute or so for the ground to load. That's not bad but this is a completely empty sim. I done some basic terraforming but not added a single object to it yet. So I'm a bit worried what will happen when there are a hundred thousand items with scripts and all.

Edit: Perhaps I should add, the name of my Mega World is OPQ 2. For now at least, I suppose Iæll have to come up with something better eventually.

Hi Tess,

Was this the first time after you created the world? It takes longer the first time. The content loading time depends on the amount of content in your world, your internet connection speed, how many of the world's assets are already in your viewer cache, etc.

Please try again and check how long it takes. I suggest you do so after you're already logged into the Kitely Welcome Center, so that you'll experience no viewer startup related delays (otherwise you will be including all the time it takes your viewer to load itself, verify its cache, log into the grid, etc.).

No, it was not the first time, fifth or sixth I think. It may have been a one time glitch because it was much faster the other times and when I tried again now, it only took 15 seconds.

That's what worries me a bit. At the moment the only assets it has are the four ground textures. But it won't stay that way of course. What happens to the load time when there are 100,000+ meshes in the sim?

There are multiple publicly accessible Mega Worlds on Kitely that you can visit. You can try Coopersville for example, which has close to 116,000 objects inside it ATM.

Note that Mega Worlds sometimes use tens or hundreds of thousands of assets totalling multiple gigabytes of storage (some more than 10GB). That amount of assets will take time to fully download to your computer even if you have a fast internet connection. Kitely's assets system uses Amazon CloudFront (their CDN) instead of OpenSim, so this amount of content is easily handled by our system even if many people enter the world at the same time with empty viewer caches.

I tried to order one of the Mega worlds, and I think I broke it already! I accidentally shut down the page while ordering. Now it is stuck "Creating..." the world I was trying to order. I logged out and restarted my browser, but it was still stuck. Any help or recommendations would be most appreciated.
