I don't know if it is seasonal [it could be tho] but I have seen a lot of movement among grids.

Someone mentioned a slowdown in g+ postings and such also, which it seems to me this may be true.

A look here http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/statis ... tatistics/ will show that while new accts have been high and/or increasing in some places, the actual active users from those places is really low.

This informs me that while new accts are being made, many people are not sticking around. It could also be, as I have personally seen, that more and more people are creating their own grids, there is a serious uptick in that.

The reductions in Metro are in part due to the educational regions not being as active lately, and part in due to, as mentioned, movement back to OSG is flattening out.

And since hypergrid enabled places are also continuing to see growth this bodes well for the future of our little Metaverse.

Re fluctuations, educators will bring significant numbers in for particular classes that may (as per Metropolis) distort numbers. Depending on the type or schedule of use, you could well see inexplicable up- and downturns. By the end of the year I will have used Kitely with about 120 students in different contexts. Not huge numbers but I am, of course, but one educator.

Maria's May report on grid statistics has just been posted: Users, regions grow on the hypergrid.

Kitely recently announced that it was discontinuing its premium memberships, which come with either 10 or 30 free regions — but existing customers and anyone who signs up before the end of the month is grandfathered in for the future. This seems to have triggered a land rush.

“Quite a lot of people have responded to our upcoming phasing out of the Premium Account and the limited time offer of our Gold Plan,” Kitely CEO Ilan Tochner told Hypergrid Business. “We’ve seen a double digit percent growth in the number of Premium Accounts and Gold Plans in the last ten days. This is a really great deal for those who understand how to take advantage of it and now is the last chance to get it.”

Maria goes on to compare InWorldz and Kitely:

Although InWorldz continues to top the charts, it actually lost 618 active users this month, more than any other grid. In addition, InWorldz typically leads the charts when it comes to registering new users. But this month, it fell to second place as its 1,613 new registrations were just behind Kitely’s 1,632.

Both grids are known for being technical innovators and especially recently, for actively marketing their grids, but Kitely seems to be pulling ahead with lower prices, megaregions, hypergrid connectivity, and its online marketplace, the Kitely Market, which delivers to almost all hypergrid-enabled grids and also some closed ones. [...]

Kitely also uses a great deal of proprietary code [like InWorldz], but they have been able to isolate their innovations in such a way that they can upgrade to the latest versions of OpenSim as they come out, taking advantage of new improvements and bug fixes.

Kitely is also the largest commercial grid that allows hypergrid travel and region downloads, with a content filtering system that allows creators to decide whether or not their creations can leave the grid via OAR region exports or hypergrid.

The numbers for Kitely are:
March 2014: 5655 (+64) regions; 18905 registered users (+717); active users 629 (+30)

The increase in active users was enough to take Kitely up a notch in the top ten most popular grids. It is now in 6th place, just above Craft Grid.

In terms of virtual land area, Kitely is the second largest OpenSim grid, with 5655 regions compared with OSgrid's recently pared-down 7376 regions.

Scanning the raw data, in terms of new registrations the top four grids are: InWorldz 1476, Kitely 717, OSgrid 643, Avination 615.

Im very happy for Kitely and always promote it when I can, but one thing puzzles me

Such a big region count 7.473 and so few worlds available at the worlds page in comparison (7.473 ???), even if some world take 16 regions, where are the 7.473 regions to visit ?


Don't take me wrong, I love Kitely and stick with Kitely and love all the worlds, they are carefully crafted and have huge personality, but regarding HG stats...

- People who register here get a free region and if they never comeback again that region will still be there, empty and not used by anyone, so Kitely regions counting does not exactly translates to active useful regions

- You may argue that keeping regions on a Grid has many costs so all Grids will have, sooner or later, to close unused regions and thus reporting/showing a more realistic region count on HG stats

- But Kitely regions are very unique - They don't take up CPU/Server resources when not used/visited, so Kitely can go forever showing huge total of regions accumulations, yet having quite less regions that are really part of ongoing creation and activity processes

Im not criticising, Im just launching some brainstorm about region counting and stats, compared to other Grids, specifically at kitely

I typically have 10-11 regions but only two are public. The others are used for teaching or development purposes.

Personally I'm more interested in the quality of service than statistics but I appreciate that for some folk attracting visitors is very important.

People may be interested in visiting other people's worlds but most people still choose to keep the majority of their worlds private. The worlds you see on the Explore Worlds page are only the ones that people have made public.

All those stats have various reporting errors, and it is sometimes mentioned there in the comments. I used to watch stats very closely and finally concluded it just did not matter to me, and to many others.

One can say such you say [and the commenter on that article said similarly] and at the same time ignoring their fav grid atm's own errors in reporting [or not errors but inventive reporting...if you wish...lol]

For example, one grid I like, 3rd Rock, and whom I am not having to worry I would get grief from them by saying so, as I would with some others, has around 100 core grid owned regions. Now they do offer those for rent in parcels and full but still...some could say that is not a very true indicator of their grids activity.

Maria's June report on grid statistics has just been posted: Regions grow, activity slows on OpenSim grids.

Active user numbers dipped across the board, as is usual when it is summer in the northern hemisphere.

OpenSim’s land area hit a new high this month and more than 9,000 new users registered on the grids, but active user numbers slipped by 672 as we enter the summer months.

There was some encouraging news from Kitely's numbers:

Kitely was the biggest land gainer this month, with 602 new regions. The grid announced a major price charge at the beginning of June, eliminating metered pricing and lowering the cost of the two top plans by 60 percent.

The price change was well received, the company said.

“Enough people have ordered one of these new world options to offset the revenue loss we had from our existing users switching from our old offering to the new, lower-priced one,” Kitely CEO Ilan Tochner told Hypergrid Business.

Kitely's numbers are:

June 2015: 8075 (+602) regions; 38435 registered users (+1939); 1008 active users (-64)

Maria's July report on grid statistics has just been posted: Land, traffic drop with summer heat.

OpenSim’s land area dropped for the first time in nearly a year as OSgrid cleared more than 2,500 regions off its map. Active users numbers also continued their typical summer slide as schools shut down for the season and other OpenSim users went outside to enjoy the sunshine.

More encouraging news from Kitely's numbers:
