If I recall correctly, this is also the first time we passed OSGrid in region count.

That was last month, after OSgrid purged over 2500 regions to a total of 7092, and Kitely grew by 394 regions to a total of 8469.

HGB's August 2015 OpenSim growth statistics give different numbers for OSgrid region growth to those in the article (which is why I edited my original post to take out the quote): an increase of 141 instead of 630 as in the article.

Edited to add: In the list of region numbers in the August article, OSgrid is listed as having 9868 regions, a difference of +1776 compared with its July region count.

So something is amiss, either in the HGB article or with the August statistics.

I notice the registered users is increasing at a fast pace. Is there a retention issue here? or what?

Registered users are increasing at a faster pace due to increase word of mouth affect attracting people to Kitely. Active user numbers are, however, lower due to low seasonal activity. It isn't rare for people to create an account during the summer and start investigating the service once they get back from their summer vacation. Also, there are quite a few people who create a Kitely account to use the marketplace. The active user numbers reported in Hypergrid Business only show people who have gone into the Kitely grid over the last 30 days, they don't show the number of people who have used the Kitely website over that period.

Maria has posted corrected OSgrid region counts for July and August in the comments section:
Maria wrote:I had miscounted OSgrid regions, and received corrected numbers from the official admins.

Here they are:

July 2015: 9238
Aug 2015: 9868

I'll go updated the raw data pages as well -- forgot about those! Thanks!
So Kitely hasn't quite yet overtaken OSgrid in land area, but it's getting close.
