Sign of the Kite newsletter

Post by Graham Mills »

The following links are to a newsletter intended to promote awareness of what is going on in Kitely. The production team is myself, Serene Jewell, Shandon Loring and Dot Matrix with the majority of the copy for the first edition sourced by yours truly. The idea of a newsletter has been kicked around previously at the Community Meetup and more recently on this forum. Whether it is sustainable will ultimately depend on whether news of its existence travels to the outer reaches of Kitely and the residents come up with interesting content and ideas to take it forward. The current version is in pdf format but others will be forthcoming. I should stress that the newsletter is neither affiliated to nor sponsored by Kitely.

Please note we are taking a break to focus on the website and History Month

very, Very, VERY Nice!!
I used to attend the Community Meetings as often as possible (even during my RL workday), but the new timeslot is very difficult for my schedule, so the newsletter is marvelous and helps us keep in touch with goings on.
Also, the Community Meetings seemed to be mostly announcements from Ilan of technical matters, with no real appropriate time to share 'goings-on', so the newsletter is a wonderful vehicle for that, without impacting the important news cycle at the Community Meetings.

I applaud you all most enthusiastically! I'll figure out a way to put a poster and giver for the "Sign Of The Kite" at all our locations.

(I really liked the feature blurb on Christmas happenings in this issue!!)

Do you need input, news, &/or info for each edition? If so what would you like? Any thoughts on what else can we do to help distribute awareness?

I had wondered if during folks wait time at the transit stations, a poster could be placed at the transit station for the newsletter, or a link appear on screen perhaps?

Good Job All!!!

Well done, Graham! Sign of the Kite is launched! I put the announcement up on G+ at: https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities ... 4656181042

Shandon, we are also launching a website which will have the newsletter and calendar and more. In fact, it occurs to me that an Arts Section might be a very nice thing to have. I wonder if you know anyone who could contribute to that? <big anime eyes> :D

Thanks Serene!! I think *maybe* we can find someone with some interest and ability on that front. :D

A Website is great idea! Would make it even more accessible to HGers.

I'm sure Seanchai is not alone in having visits from many other grids. At present I count 67 other grids that have visited Seanchai worlds.
(A list of these can now be easily had thanks to Ilan and Oren's clever "Account History Download" feature!)

Perhaps it could be good to reach out to these grid owners and encourage them to make their populace aware of the newsletter and website and calendar.
(HYPEvents.net is an exciting addition to this same type of initiative too)

Seanchai Library is presently on two closed grids, as well as opensim via Kitely.
I don't see us expanding to any more closed grids, so opensim/hypergrid will, hopefully, offer great expansion of audience/customer opportunities for all of us.

And, because I didn't say it earlier... Well Done Graham!!

Thanks, Shandon. I think that was the easy part. :) Getting the news out beyond the core group of users who frequent the forum will be more of a challenge but hopefully we can collectively help Kitely become significantly more than the sum of its parts.

Best be sure this newsletter has a feed (RSS). Then people can follow it in a news feed like Feedly (the one I use).

If it has a feed, I can follow it and pick up news leads from it.

I think you would do best with a blog. I use Blogger--no cost, quickly searched by Google, search on site with the

search bar at the top on the page. You can set it up for collaborative blogging, so you could spread the work over everone who has things to promote in Kitely or Kitely market. I might contribute a blog from time to time if I have something I am not ready to post on my blog. (A similar article might come out later on my blog.)

I have articles about blogging on my blog. Some might be of use to you. Just open my blog and put the word "blog" in the search bar at the top left.

Just a reminder to send me any news for Friday's newsletter, either by Forum PM or on a notecard inworld. Just 4-5 sentences plus any necessary URLs, dates, etc.

Slightly later than usual, here is the weekly newsletter from Sign of the Kite. Feedback welcome!

Next full issue will be 8th Jan 2016 but there may be some announcements and/or a shorter update before then if folk have pressing news to pass on. Also, please do join the inworld groups!

Otherwise it simply remains to wish our readers happy and peaceful holidays from the production team of myself, Dot Matrix, Shandon Loring and Serene Jewell.
