Dunthea House - Landis Island

DUNTHEA HOUSE, LANDIS ISLAND.

Dunthea House, situated at the centre of Landis Island, is a stately house built in the Jacobethan style, set within a landscaped country park. The 16 acre site is the island seat of the Earl of Landis.

The house stands on the site of an earlier building, which was built on the foundations of the medieval palace of the Bishops of Landis, who owned the estate from the 10th century. The original site was recorded in the Doomsday Book.

Since 1714, the house has been home to the Quinnell family.

Dunthea House is best known today for its many reported ghosts, but to write about them all here would be a book in itself... Better still, why not make time for a visit to Landis Island and Dunthea House and see for yourself... If he is at home, the current Earl, Geoff Quinnell, will be glad to share a story or two.

DUNTHEA HOUSE, LANDIS ISLAND.

A quick update… This stunning photograph of Dunthea House at dawn, taken by a visitor, has just been sent in to me...

Apart from showing off the house in all its grandeur and moodiness, the photograph also features, what could be, a rare glimpse of the famous Black Monk of Dunthea, just before disappearing behind the row of topiary trees, in the direction of the East Maze...

Enjoy :)

HALLOWEEN TREASURE HUNT

Starting tomorrow (Friday October 24th) and leading up to Halloween, Landis Island & Dunthea House will be hosting a treasure hunt, with a cash prize of KC1000 to the one lucky winner.

A series of special notes, leading to a prize ticket, are now hidden around the house and island.

Dunthea House and Landis Island is said to be riddled with secret passageways and panels, which supposedly have never been fully explored, so who knows what could be awaiting the intrepid hunter.

Landis Island group membership (available at the entrance to the house) will also be required to access the notes.

To add to the atmosphere, don’t forget to switch your sound on… who knows what you may hear (or see).

Good luck.
Geoff
