This is one of those curiosity-based builds. I had a ribbon-type mesh for a protein (that's the colourful one made in Chimera). After some fiddling I managed to make a surface for it using Chimera (that's the asteroid). Then I put it into Autodesk's 123D Make app and generated the really large layered version. People often talk about using an avatar to explore a structure and I think this is the nearest I've got to one you might just find intriguing. Needless to say these are maxi-sized meshes, the physics is struggling a little and I'm really talking more curiosity/spectacle than science. It won't stay open long so check it out if you're interested.

Sadly 123D Make doesn't support textures as yet.Marstol Nitely wrote:Very cool. With a little texture it would look great underwater.

Very cool stuff, Graham. This is what I love about having multiple worlds to play with. You can use one as a workshop to test things out while you do other things with your other worlds. It's amazing to have all this space.
About texturing. You should be able to click on it and save as a dae file. Then you (or someone) could take it into blender (or some other program) and texture it.
I took a pic of the structures at https://www.flickr.com/photos/126136906 ... 990650291/
Here's a pic of just the protein model. https://www.flickr.com/photos/126136906 ... 371485653/
You know that protein model is quite beautiful. Joseph Zazulak of the Phantasmagoria region on Kitely might be willing to place it in his lovely gallery. You might have to scale it down a wee bit, but he has some BIG art there. With a little notecard on proteins it could be both artful and educational! Just a thought. http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Spi ... tasmagoria

Re: Cas9
Thanks, Serene. I totally agree about the space thing -- being able to do this kind of build on a whim, just for the lulz...
Next year I will probably have a little more time so I will try to do something more meaningful with these and the many other structures in my inventory.
Cas9 is no more. The structures have been moved to the SE corner of the world known as Stuff.
