International Spaceflight Museum Grand Opening April 21 5pm

Post by Spaceflight Museum »

ISMuseum, a US 501©(3) non-profit corporation, announces the Grand Opening of our branch museum in Kitely, 21 April 2017 at 5:00 p.m. grid time at grid.kitely.com:8002:ISMuseum. Hypergrid visitors welcome, too! Live entertainment by Agatha, and a reading of Robert A Heinlein's story, Requiem will be performed by Seanchai at 6:00 p.m., all to be live-streamed to the original ISM in Second Life, founded in 2005, using a beta version of GridPhone by Hypersonic Systems. Join us to see new exhibits, and offer suggestions for more! Our purpose is to offer full-scale, realistic models of spacecraft from many national space agencies and private space development companies, in an attractive and dynamic setting, along with information about space exploration, development and astronomy.

I want to thank everyone who attended, not just in Kitely, where our attendance reached 20 at one point, but also another 10-15 at the museums SL location, as we simulcast the music, voice reading, chat, and used Screenleap.com to share the goings on in Kitely with the folks in SL, some of whome had never heard of Kitely before and are now interested in checking things out here. ISMuseum region is twice the size of the museums facilities in SL, allowing us to exhibit far more exhibits, which we are gradually migrating, recreating, or making whole new exhibits of spaceflight artifacts that we never showed in SL.
This is the start of our Museum On A Stick project, to develop a full museum documenting the whole history of spaceflight in 3d, in an easy to install package for educators to operate on secure school networks where students can learn about space and spaceflight in a safe environment.
To that end, we were still looking for more folks to participate in our Building Committee to be engaged in this exhibit building program. If you have spaceflight content you would like to share and donate, please do! We do need it fully permed, and any 3rd party sources need to be documented. ISM is a Texas registered 501c3. We just hired our first volunteer intern this week, Kelly Bucklaew, who is a recent college graduate in Game Design and will be helping us raise our skills to a new level.

We debuted the new GridFone system that provides much more robust and reliable chat bridging between worlds like these public events, but will also soon provide private, secure, avatar to avatar communications on any grid, or other VR/VW platform, as well as with people in real life. This is all new code, not reliant upon the old Chat Bridge system developed by the late lkalif used in the Sim Link devices. When Hypersonic Systems puts the GridFone on sale in Opensim and SL to start, a percentage of sales will be donated to the ISM to help fund its mission.

Once again, thanks to everyone who attended, and if you missed it, Selby Evans brought his opensim tour group through Saturday and produced a video of the facility which you can find on his blog. Also, Thanks to Wwanderer Resident and Ramesh Ramlol who both recorded the opening event and have those videos available online.
