Presenting this magnificent story just for you, taken directly from the movie..
..only better, cuz it's us! And You!

On the island of Motunui, life is wonderful.. until the plants begin to die and all the fish disappear! Moana’s gramma has told the tale of the demi-god Maui, and how when he stole the heart of Te Fiti he set in motion the slow death of all living things. Gramma also told how someone had to take the heart, find Maui, and get him to return it so life can be restored. Is that ‘someone’ Moana? The daughter of the village chieftain? It would seem the ocean has chosen Moana for great things.. but so far she can’t even make it past the reef, let alone leave the island in search of Maui
