Hypergrid Guide

It has been a long while since I did any hypergridding so I thought it might be good if I started to compile a little guide: http://hypergrid1.tiddlyspot.com/

It has an emphasis on education and culture -- or will have when it's finished (which it never will be, of course).

Hey Graham,

Thank you so much for putting this up. But, maybe its me... it all sounds sooo darn technical. Even the term or name "hypergrid" sounds like something out of space to me while I do try to keep track of technology. What will people that don't keep track think of such a term or name. Can't we just have a system like http and url's? Like a simple description and an address or link you click. I don't know if my region is HG enabled and I don't know how to set this up but I would like it a lot. Simplicity should be the key to unlock traveling I think.

Warm regards,

Ami

Hi Amiryu,

Once we enable hypergrid access in Kitely, world managers will have an additional option to allow/not allow hypergrid visitors to their world.

You can hypergrid travel between grids using landmarks, hypergates, scripts, and HOP addresses. See: https://blog.inf.ed.ac.uk/atate/2013/06 ... protocols/

Thanks for another great resource Graham! :)

And thanks to you and Oren for all the work to make HG happen for Kitely Ilan. Heard it's only a few weeks (unless there are any hiccups of course). This is really exciting! :D

Ilan, that's a very sane proposal that you point to but (as it says) it's not what's out there, e.g. see http://www.osgrid.org/index.php/hypergrid.

The fixing of the 4095 bug will help simplify matters as well.

Ami, the best strategy is to find some good teleport boards -- I'm sure these will be popping up all over Kitely.

Hey Graham,

will I need to set up TP boards to be able to receive HG guests or do I ony use them to jump from Kitely to other worlds?

No, you only need them to access a location. It's basically the same as teleporting between grids.

Hi Graham,

To my knowledge the 4096 bug has already been fixed in Firestorm and Singularity, and possibly in other OpenSim compatible viewers as well. See: http://www.hypergridbusiness.com/2013/0 ... bug-fixed/

AFAIK, entering a HOP address in order to teleport to a hypergrid address on another grid from a hypergrid enabled grid should work (it won't work on Kitely until we enable hypergrid access to other grids).

I was aware of the fix but I was, alas, using a slightly out-of-date version of Firestorm that didn't have it. I can confirm that it is now possible to jump from Zaius Plaza at around 10000,10000 to Jump4000 at 4000,4000 on OSgrid. Yipeee! :D
