Come and join us on Saturday March 12th at 1800 hrs (6pm) PST when Mato Sapa is reading "Crazy Horse and Custer: The Parallel Lives of Two American Warriors". The full story of what led Crazy Horse and Custer to that fateful day at the Little Bighorn, from bestselling historian Stephen E. Ambrose. Everyone is welcome.

On the sparkling morning of June 25, 1876, 611 U.S. Army soldiers rode toward the banks of the Little Bighorn in the Montana Territory, where 3,000 Indians stood waiting for battle. The lives of two great warriors would soon be forever linked throughout history: Crazy Horse, leader of the Oglala Sioux, and General George Armstrong Custer of the Seventh Cavalry. Both were men of aggression and supreme courage. Both had become leaders in their societies at very early ages; both had been stripped of power, and in disgrace had worked to earn back the respect of their people. And to both of them, the unspoiled grandeur of the Great Plains of North America was an irresistible challenge.

Role Play Impressions:

Sergeant Franz Vought watches Private Skelton, standing at the opposite side of the fort. He wonders how the boy will fare, should he ever have to fight any of the local natives. Will past experiences hamper him... or will they give the Private resolve?

Role Play Impressions:

Oglala Chief Mato Sapa sits thinking on what he now knows. It is less than he had hoped for. He has many questions still. But it is something. Without Horse tells only what he sees, and so Mato Sapa must be patient.

Role Play Impressions:

Colonel William Crandall reads a communique, and smiles... the 1st Maryland, his old regiment and his first assignment after West Point, is having a 10 year reunion soon. He needs to find a reason to go to Washington, so that he can attend.
He comes up with a plan.... the budget allowance for Fort Wales being lower than he likes, and Washington refusing so far to increase it, based on man power requirements.... if he goes to Washington in person, to plead for an increase in personnel (based upon his feelings about the Sioux and Cheyenne threat.... which he can embellish without too much effort), he can attend the reunion while there!

Colonel William Crandall returns from Washington, following the Oregon Trail toward Fort Wales.
He approaches the fort, and stops to look at it. Odd, somehow, to think of this as being "home".

Hishorse Appearsbravely is glad that Without Horse has calmed Mato Sapa. Certainly Without Horse (as usual) sees right... given time, a vision may yet come to Mato Sapa. Then his son will have the guidance that he seeks, and be less restless.

Sergeant Franz Vought returns to the fort, and reports himself back. He tells the others in the barracks about the new "talent" at the Whitman's Grove saloon. Franz Vought notices Private Skelton been wide-eyed and turning red in the face, as he listens.
