The BURNING Question: HUD or Variations?

Post by Brayla Sana »

I am getting ready to release a BUNCH of stuff in Dadiella's clothing store. I have a question though. As customers, (the reason I posted in General and not the Building forum) do you prefer a color change HUD or a set of variations where you choose the colors you want to buy? I can see pro and cons to both.

HUD Pros:
  • Access to all color variations
    Smaller inventory size
HUD Cons:
  • Scripts in wearables
Variations Pros:
  • No Scripts
You can easily choose the style you want from Inventory
Variations Cons:
  • More inventory spaces used
Let me know your thoughts. I am sure this will be useful to anyone selling and buying clothes.

haha.

I was leaning toward variations myself, but I as wondering if that was just because I have a personal abhorrence to clothing scripts in general.

I prefer variations, I don't like attaching HUDs in case they detatch something else.

oops I forgot to mention these are mesh items.

I got in the habit of only buying full perm clothing in SL because I liked the freedom of changing things. Some of the template creators I have bought from have given me permission to upload and sell on Kitely.

Using product variations with all the proper Attributes will increase the likelihood of people finding your items when they search the marketplace. For example, people who filter using colors will not see your multi-colored HUD driven item if it doesn't list the color they are looking for.

(BTW, I'm currently in transit in the States so was not able to respond promptly)

That really helps my decision. I have some products that will need a HUD (because of skin and toenails) but most things will probably be variations in Dadiella's store. I think this will allow me to also get products up for sale faster :D
