Is Imprudence the best (or only?) viewer for importing?

Post by Adagio Greenwood »

I use Imprudence for importing but had distinctly mixed results last night when I was importing gargoyles (I LOVE gargoyles!). In one case I had to reapply most of the sculpt maps when I rezzed the gargoyle in Firestorm even though it looked normal when I imported it in Imprudence. Is Imprudence the only game in town or should I be moving to something else? All advice welcome. :)

Hi Adagio,

For content import you can also try using Angstorm Viewer and Second Inventory.

In general, whenever possible, I'd recommend using a v3 viewer with Kitely, such as Firestorm, and not a v1-based viewer such as Imprudence or Phoenix.

Hey there friends just wanted to give further advice on importing just a few simple steps many do not do and cannot get things imported in, here we go :)

Step one- if you get a .XML file thru a source online like opensim creations one of very easy mistakes is trying to load the .xml file while its in the asset folder!
Asset folder is the added info your .XML file needs for textures & sculpt maps, & scripts you must not load if the .XML file is in assets folder drag XML file out of assets folder into the main documents section or where ever you keep your most important things organized .

Step one and a half - Make sure if you have a .XML File and/or and not a Asset folder file that they are not in other folders but in main file section
as viewer cannot open the extra files to get the content it needs so when you go to open .XML file then the pop up window pops and you click documents
that its right there not buried in 2 or 3 file layers

step two -try to always use same viewer for importing and exporting

step three -the older the .XML the more likely it was done in a early .XML format that no longer even works so if older then 3 years you might need to download a very old viewer to open them

This was tested in windows however you do same thing in Linux or Macintosh

Stored Inventory is a pain but worth the cost just be sure to get the multi name version its a little higher but will offer more advantages if needed
once you got all of your stuff in kitely be sure to unpack everything in a region then export your region now you have a 3rd inventory back up :)

never again will I be a prisoner in someone elses walled garden that's why I find kitely so speciel as options are giving to enhance our lives
Just advice from a crazy old cat lady! after hours of fighting it this is just some good pointers and hope it can help my fellow sisters & brothers of Kitely :D

Hi Ada,

Kitely Plugin support Kokua. You just need to install it in the default directory recommended by its installer then select it to be used in your Kitely account Settings page: http://www.kitely.com/settings

For details see: http://www.kitely.com/startviewers

hm. I have Kokua installed in default directories, and I can get into Kitely with it if I open the world first in FS, then close FS, then open Kokua, which is awkward. At my Kitely settings, only Dolphin, Firestorm and Imprudence show up in the dropdown viewer list. Suggestions?

Hi Ada,

Do you have Kokua installed in this directory (depending on which version of Windows you have)?

Windows 32-bit: "C:\Program Files\KokuaViewer\KokuaViewer.exe"
Windows 64-bit: "C:\Program Files (x86)\KokuaViewer\KokuaViewer.exe"
