Trains!!!!
Just for anyone who might be interested, I'm working on Function trains that follow prims like SLRR in Second Life. I have something working out in the desert part of the Wolf Territories. Come over and see what's going on. Looking to build a full working train system with carriages and engines suitable for people to ride on.
This is very much stage one and at the moment is a pair of prims jerkily moving around a track.

Re: Trains!!!!
Pretty exciting
I've laid about 50 miles of track and the engine is driving round it... you might have to wait a while to see it though.
If you see it you can try and ride it but it doesn't behave too well when an avatar is on it. More research needed.

Re: Trains!!!!
And now you can ride the engine round the huge sims.
Got to work out how to do carriages next.

Re: Trains!!!!
More of an FYI than anything. I have been using Kitely to create private builds illustrating early modern railways although train operation has not been a priority, it is more an attempt to gain insights into historical development of the industry in Liverpool. I sometimes blog on builds, e.g. http://build2understand.10centuries.org ... ion-bridge
PS: There are a few (high prim) builds on Kitely Market, e.g. https://www.kitely.com/market/product/1 ... ocomotives

Re: Trains!!!!
Thanks, Graham yeah some nice builds, I bought them!
I think we could at least get them moving on tracks. my Train system requires the addition of one prim to the train model and then the use of special tracks you can see in world that have GUIDE prims on them to show the train where to go. That way the train is able to follow the guide prims more like a real train rather than the whole putting in coordinates thing.
On my sim the train actually goes right up into the mountains and comes down the other side on a huge bridge which is great fun.
I'm looking to package the train system together but I've not got the carriages script working yet basically because I was exhausted having worked a whole night on the train system (I have autism so I find it difficult to stop when I get started on something I love basically to the point where I can't really physically carry on lol).
I will have a go at making your trains work on my sim (they are the right period just the wrong country lol)

Re: Trains!!!!
You're Rocket is currently running round my tracks!!!!! Just added a prim - it's not animated in any way but it's working and stopping at stations etc. I'm just adding a sit ball and smoke to it so I can ride it

Re: Trains!!!!
woohoo, looks like so much fun!
My build is pre-steam power (bronze age/medieval theme) but I grew up playing with HO model railroads. You're making me nostalgic!

By day I write modern fantasy novels, by night I torture prims!
