Second Life uses a non-free physics engine which provides the pathfinding functionality. The non-free nature of the SL physics engine is why OpenSim uses either ODE, BulletSim or UbODE, all of which are free and open source but none of which include pathfinding (or at least they didn't when the OpenSim developers adopted them).

Pathfinding does not work, but Opensim has NPC's. In a lot of ways, for creating things like, well, NPC's or animals, etc. the NPC system is superior to pathfinding IMO.

Hey Gregg, there is a work around on this topic that drove me bonkers for a long time. We used this script to create the macy's day Thanksgiving parade last year. It worked like a charm.
Check this page out. https://opensimworld.com/libraryview=32
and here is a video that really helps to explain the scripts well

Also, If you are looking to make animesh move and bend it to your will. There's a new flippin awesome tool coming to the market soon call the Animaster. You will have total control over what your animesh does, says and even how they interact with other animesh.
Contact me in-world when you come in and I will show you a demonstration, it's gonna blow your mind!!!

Thank you Kimm Starr for mentioning the Animaster. With your assistance we know this is going to be a game changer for Kitely users.

The graphic is interesting, but the link goes to a random page on opensim world. Where is it supposed to go?

Hiya, the links were for the openSim world script page. There you can find the rollercoaster and parade script which works sort of like pathfinding. The Animaster is not out yet but is in the final stages of being finished and will be ready for the market soon. Sorry for the confusion.
