Zuza, gathering this information together in one place is incredibly useful -- thank you!
How would you like us to help tweak the English? Would one way be to copy a paragraph from the blogpost and edit it here in the forum? Or would you prefer a pm via the forum?

Excellent primer-)) I am going to share it around a few places.
I would add that imp [tho I agree is outdated] is what I use to export/import my shape I use everywhere [even in rl I imported to combat old age issues and so I could get back my youthful figure]

Soooo....
it's pay money for old software, use specific viewer and you still need to fix the textures ?
Which viewers support the greatest level of "not fiddling with the textures afterwards" ?

I've had no texture issues with Angstrom or CoolVL, which is what I use to handle XMLs

I've been lucky to get one texture attached correctly with bad mapping

Re: How to transfer content from SL to Kitely
Dundridge, I do not understand what you mean exactly...
" pay money for old software" - only software which is needed to be payed is Second Inventory. Plenty of merchants, including me, bought it about 2008, when any other ways for backup was not possible. I have got it since these times, so I am using it.
"use specific viewer and you still need to fix the textures" - you do not need to fix textures in Second Inventory, it restoring items reliably. If not, it is usually matter of damaged backup, it is issue related to SL, not to SI backuping or the new grid.
You sometimes need to fix textures when importing items from XML. I guess it is only matter of cache directory shared for several grids.
If you use same Viewer for export in SL AND for import in Kitely AND you are not sharing the directory for both grids, I think the imported item will be ok. I am using Firestorm or Singularity for it and it is ok for me.

Re: How to transfer content from SL to Kitely
sorry, I thought the article said said it was no longer developed. Needless to say, I haven't bought it. Does it scan in world objects or inventory ?? I'm assuming it uses viewer technology which would restrict it to in world objects ?
I've had very little luck (so far) importing stuff with viewers. How does it export textures, and how does the import process remap texture UUIDs when it is using a different grid ?
Need more information !
Is Angstrom/CoolVL worth poking at ?
exporting as mesh sounds fascinating
