Using Stored Inventory

Post by nikita Jefferson »

I have used Stored Inventory to transfer all my creations to my HD. I also used it to upload content to Virtual Highway where i have all my skins and avatars and fashions.
I did a test upload to Kitely using Stored Inventory and tried to wear what i uploaded.

This how it went

Top i could wear
Skirt i could wear
Underpants i could wear
Eyes i could not wear
Skin i could not wear
Shape i could wear but the next time i logged in i was smoke and it would'nt change until i wore a kitely shape.

The icons denoting what is what are like this in my inventory ( left side of description in inventory)
Skin -shape icon
shape-shape icon
eyes - shape icon
Brow - shape icon
Top -question mark icon ( ? )
underpants - underpants icon ( this is ok )
Skirt- object icon (this is ok)
Does anyone have any suggestions,it looks like something is'nt recognizing what is what

Hi nikita,

Did you use Second Inventory to move the content into Virtual Highway?

You mentioned having the items on your hard drive. Do you have your items in sim-on-a-stick or another OpenSim-based region where you can export an OAR file?

If so, you can rezz your inventory in that region, save it to an OAR file and use that OAR file to create a new Kitely world. Then retake the items from that world to your Kitely avatar's inventory.

Yes, i used stored inventory to move my content to Virtual highway.
The content i mean that i have on my HD is the folder with everything uploaded using stored inventory,i take items from those folders which are downloaded from secondlife, and upload from those to VH or as in this case Kitely.
Not sure what format those files are in the stored inventory folder, if i try to open them i get the message saying windows cannot open them.
Not sure what a "sim on a stick" is.But i guess the answer would be no.
I just have my shops in SL and VH and this is my first try on an opensim.
I have opened a shop on the kitely market and i am trying to get my creations into my Kitely inventory to put on the marketplace

Just a quick fyi.

simonastick http://simonastick.com/ is for running prebuilt regions in your own computer.

You can, for example, bring all your content into that, then upload the oar file into kitely on your free region or otherwise. I often put it all in boxes.

The command line in your soas console is:

save oar name.oar

VH, like Kitely is opensim based.

Others will add to this I am sure and Welcome to Kitely-))

eta: added missing s which I seem to often miss for some odd reason.

What Minethere said. I do this all the time and made heavy use of this procedure when building up my sim for the recent murder mystery event we held. Its very convenient, affordable and you always retain everything on your harddrive.

Just to add one bit of information, once you save the OAR, you will find it in the /bin folder of the Sim-on-a-Stick setup

Hi nikita :-)

Both VH and Kitely use OpenSim, but it's possible that we're using two different versions of OpenSim. We're currently in the process of upgrading to OpenSim 0.7.6 (that has just recently been released) and once that's done, and assuming VH will upgrade as well, Second Inventory should work the same in Kitely as it does in VH. This upgrade should be completed within 1-2 weeks.

In the meantime, I suggest you follow Minethere's advise and download the OpenSim 0.7.6 version of sim-on-a-stick so you can use it to create an OAR file from the items you have stored in Second Inventory. You can then use that OAR file to import your items into Kitely.

Alternatively, try using Imprudence's content backup function to backup your creations in SL and upload them into Kitely. See: http://wiki.kokuaviewer.org/wiki/Imprud ... ent_Backup

Thanks for the info everyone.
The simonastick and OAR are all new to me so i will have to study up on them.
I have been on SL for about 8 years now so i am used to how things work there.
I made a free region here so its a start.
Just one question re, the free sim.
Is it free? and if so can my partner come there too or will that cost anything.
As i said this is all new to me so i am learning as i go along.
Thanks again.

The really good thing is, with Kitely, they have no problem at all with telling ppl of ways they can do things that I have not seen in any other closed grid....some even go so far as to spread disinformation in order to keep their people and content in them, only.

As Kitely says they will open to HG also, by year end...this is very, very good for all...in several ways.

This is why I have no problem discussing things such as soas, as it is allowed to be done, in the first place.

If you have more questions about such things, feel free to PM me here also.

Lots of info about SoaS itself on Ener Hax's website http://iliveisl.com/
She is usually pretty helpful and responsive. And it is best to go to the source

Other info, just ask. :D

I tried imprudence, and exported, it seemed to go ok, i got the exports on my computer, then went into Kitely to import but each time i tried i crashed, i got this message
" unable to upload ( long number) due to the following reason: No handler registered for LLSD requests.
Maybe i'll try the sim-on-a-stick way.
Thanks again everyone,
