Re: Texturing Mesh
It was really hard to get to this point and I had help from Cel Edman and another friend.

Re: Texturing Mesh
Please note, you can create a physics mesh separate to the mesh you are building, and you can easily move in, around and on a mesh building/object(with or without a separate physics mesh) if it is set up correctly. It isn't trivial to do this

I got no clue how to do this and at this point the only way I know how to enter a mesh house is make it phantom.Dundridge Dreadlow wrote:Please note, you can create a physics mesh separate to the mesh you are building, and you can easily move in, around and on a mesh building/object(with or without a separate physics mesh) if it is set up correctly. Re: Texturing Mesh
I wonder if, perhaps, someone can set up a basic class to help ppl in such things?
Charge some reasonable fee? or barter?
Not for me as I don't have the brain cells left to learn anything new, but I am sure, if planned well, some would be interested, in mesh, or other things.

Re: Texturing Mesh
I guess reason why I posted the colored box was my own attempt at breaking it down but I still don't know enough to explain it.
Other then UV maps like in avatar shapes all those tiny boxes in between lines are what make up space within meshes, and artist I am trying to figure out how paint in those tiny grids that translates to actually 3d object.
But actual generating or drawing them out, all more technical things my friends go on about the triangles I don't get.

Re: Texturing Mesh
Sarge I found something interesting not sure about it yet just looking at but the 3d work is incredible it has even interesting 3d viewers I am reading about it here http://3d.si.edu/article/getting-started
The home page is here http://3d.si.edu/
The site is called Smithsonian X 3D
This one of the downloadable 3d models its chair. Its a very ornate 18th century chair
Its set on white and its side view I am going to draw out in photoshop
https://3d.si.edu/explorer?modelid=64#
https://3d.si.edu/explorer?s=kFMHkC
I just downloaded 3 of items there they have restrictions on their items and no they aren't in obj, dae formats they are in tiff. At least chair was, the Emily Earheart flight suit is obj but for some reason I can't open obj files in photoshop.
You have to give the creators credit, use it for only personal, educational and non-commercial uses which I am planning on doing.
I am right drawing over chair top pine cone in gray scale and going to experiment with it.
I figure half way in that there was easier way to do gray scale which I forget and I did turn into 3d and dae file at least front part but not sure how to fix the back and sides yet.

Re: Texturing Mesh
You can import an .obj file to Blender and then export it as a .dae, which can be uploaded to Kitely. Obj files are 3D files. Once they are in Blender, you can UV map them and apply textures or, if you are lucky, a texture will be included where you find the original file. I have found tons of free meshes around the net but they are usually way to big and intricate to use. If you search for "low poly" stuff, you sometimes get lucky.

Re: Texturing Mesh
For newbies in mesh technique I can recommend the Machinimatrix video tutorials. There are intended for Blender and mesh for SL (which is almost the same as mesh for OpenSim).
If you do not want study how to work with Blender, at least you will see how it works, the principles are the same for all software.
http://blog.machinimatrix.org/category/mesh/
Start with Coffee cup tutorial series, there is part of basic UV mapping too. Somewhere in tutorials is explanation for "make the separate file for mesh physics."
If you want to do complex mesh object, like houses, you need to understand how physics works. I recommned the SL wiki, you need to understand this part and this part.
Physics in OpenSim works little bit different than in SL, so use the "Setting physics shape on upload" from extra file for physics in OpenSim.
Making complex mesh object is not as easy as work with sculpties, you need to understand of UV mapping and how physics works. There is no other way then you will spend hours of trying and exploring:)
You can use the 3D object from servers, where is plenty of free 3D files, but very often you need some editing before uploading inworld, if you do not understand the principles of mesh, you will fail on upload anyway.
About "mesh lessons." I have personally taught several people in Blender basics, that basic techniques needed before making the first sculptie or mesh, and I can tell, everybody is "fast" differently. Everybody needs another "speed" of learning and another way. The video tutorials are great way how to compensate it, you can study when you want and how fast you need. You need to try everything to understand, several times.
If somebody has the particular question why something is not working how is expected, there is plenty of solved and answered questions online, at least about Blender and I believe about another 3D software too. If somebody has particular question about mesh in OpenSim, I will answer if I will know the solution. But you really need to understand the basics and ask specific question:)

Re: Texturing Mesh
I downloaded several free 3d programs one was Wings 3d, having major issues with finding how to import files and navigate there. It seems to want AI files or XML and I am just trying to figure out how use illustrator and I don't exactly get about the XML files.
But I have compiling these shapes with this thing my friend Cel gave me that generates shapes into dae files I was looking at code and wondering if I could be turn into XML files instead.
Blender I am still struggling with but I know more then I did 10 years ago when I first uploaded it.
Thanks for the advise. I will check out the tutorials.
I personally want to draw out unique shapes. I did draw out my own legs and I found a tutorial on how to use the pen tool in photoshop to do 3d gun but its not entirely complete so I don't know how to make all the faces of hand drawn object and I need more practice with pen tool.
One of big issues I am facing if I uploading any mesh that haven't been reduce to lower poly because I don't know how in blender is if I can't check the poly count or don't know how and I upload to Second Life I end having to spend over 345L or more.
Friend was saying with complexity of Smithsonian chair its size is so huge in sections if I uploaded it unedited, because some of them get up to 4000 pixels the weigh fee would be huge.
