In World Servers

Post by Dundridge Dreadlow »

Hi, I'm on the verge of making the full jump over to Kitely (my free minutes just expired, so VERY soon), really liking the style so far :) Everywhere ! :) I'm also impressed with the tech (especially on-demand regions) and lack of lag :)

I do however have one problem - in-world servers (for example, product updates, delivery vendors and similar)

Since the region is offlined when not in use, these won't be able to function very well.

Obviously I can cue requests on an external website and update/deliver when anyone brings the region with the in-world server online, or spam everyone with updates when I'm online, but I'd prefer something more friendly and seamless.

Anyone have a better work-around ?

PS. Kitely is awesome.

Thank you Dundridge :-)

The recommended option is to use something like Google Apps to run your always-on server component and then have in-world servers query that server when the world starts. You can then either push updates from the external server until it detects the in-world server is offline or have the in-world server query the external server every few minutes for updates (querying too frequently can create avoidable lag in the worlds the in-world servers are located in).
