OPQ Fences and Railings

Post by Tess Juel »

Take a long and thin prim and add an alpha masked tileable railing texture to it. It's such an easy, efficient and low lag way to add details to any scene and if it's a good texture (such as mine) you only notice that it isn't a detailed mesh if you study it up really close. We all should use this kind of deceptively simple objects a lot more!

First a set with low resolution textures to reduce the lag even more.

And another one. This one comes with three slightly different patterns, each in seven colors.

Of course, if you want a more elaborate design, you need more pizels in the texture. But these ones are still only 512x512.

The little 64x64 pixel chainlink texture in this set looks just as good as traditional higher resolution ones with built in repeats. All you have to do is increase the repeat rate in-world.
And if you want a fence that look real even on closeup, try the 256x256 variant with the normal and specular maps.
