Demo Maker

Post by Gypsy Paz »

Hey Guys,

I just wrote a neat script that creates demo versions of your builds.

You can find it here: http://www.kitely.com/market/product/2805723/Demo-Maker

If you have any questions or need support on this item, post here in this forum thread.

Re: Demo Maker

Nice idea, but confusing product which I am failing to get to work at present - the instructions are less than clear. I'm trying to make a demo of a mesh dress.

"1) Put your add texture on the prim, and make any size/color adjustments you like"
I assume this means to retexture the prim called "Demo Maker" with the vendor board image for my Market listing

"2) Put the URL to the market page for this item in the Description of you item"
I assume this means to paste the Market URL for my product into the Description field of my rezzed dress

"3) Put the caption you wish displayed on the link menu in the Name of your item"
I've named my dress in its "Name" field - I don't understand the reference to "link menu", what menu?

"4) Link it into your build. (Make sure it is a child prim)"
Link what? The Demo Maker prim, to be a child prim of the dress? Done that - the only thing that happens here is that the sign gives a link to to my dress on the Market.

"5) It will ask you how many hours you wish the demo to work for"
Nothing happens, I have not been asked anything. I have no menu or dialogue to enable me to enter a time.

So here I can go no further - wasted a ton of time trying to figure it out. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tanya

hi Tanya,
I wrote that script 5 years ago, so I barely remember myself. But, yeah it wouldn't work so well with a wearable item like a dress. having the dress vanish and turn into a sign would be quite embarrassing.

Hi Gypsy, thanks for responding.

I use a script in SL for my clothing demos, to perform a similar function - demo to self delete after x minutes - so I was quite excited by this. The ideal application for such a script is demos for mesh clothing, so I had expected it to work. Sadly not, so I think I need a refund please.

Regards
Tanya

:)
maybe i ll put the script my rl partner, made for me on market (with a simple clear info)
- it works simple (and maybe not what everyone wants) thats why i give, so much info always :)
i want pple to b happy with their purchase as i wanna be also

it works like this :
the owner can put in the 'minutes' in to view-try on (i use it for shoes atm), the shoe -or other item- does stay in the customer their inventory , sadly he hasnt got time to fix that but its np since :
- it vanishes from teh foot
- if its one shoe pple cant keep 'using' (or copybotting?) it
- its -imo- a good solution for ourcustomers to b able to see & try it
its new, it works good in kitely - i still will test it in digi & dyna first
good luck tanya

Hi again Gypsy

I don't think an "embarrassment" factor is relevant here - most people try on clothing demos in private, a disappearing dress after the prescribed demo time is accepted as normal. Customers in SL appreciate my demos because they can see the outfit exactly like the full product will be if they choose to puchase.

The problem here with your script is it doesn't work at all - I don't even get as far as selecting the time limit, and certainly not to a disappearing dress. I have just the dress linked to your "sign" and all that happens is a click through to the product on Kitely Market.

I was asking for your help, in case I did something wrong in the setup, but you seem to have dismissed my enquiry. Please either offer me help or a working script, and failing either of those, a refund of my purchase.

Thank you

Yeah Chris it will stay in inventory, there is nothing you can do about that unless you make a temporary attachment with the Experience system in SL.
I am a little curious how you made it work. llDetachFromAvatar() requires PERMISSION_ATTACH. What happens if someone is trying on a pair of shoes and denies the permission request?

My script may just work, as it doesn't llDie() As best as I can remember from five years ago, it turns all the other prims invisible and "visually" replaces it with a sign. Tanya, did you link it as a child prim? (whichever object you select last when linking becomes the root prim. So select the sign first and your dress second when linking, making your dress the root prim)

Anyway, I was not trying to be dismissive. but we are talking about a script I wrote five years ago, on a grid I haven't been back to in years.

Gypsy

With respect, I do know how to correctly link a root prim - I even detailed what I had done in my initial post, in case there was an error in the instructions. I actually tried linking it both ways, just in case. We are talking about a single object mesh dress here, so a 2-object item when linked with the sign.

Your advertisement boasts that this works on "any item". I suspect it does not work on a rigged mesh object, and I have no other use for it than that, nor time to waste testing on non-mesh items. By your own admission, this script is something you just dumped on the market some years ago, never to revisit or check that it is up to date for current usage. Not a very responsible way to operate, in my opinion.

Since you clearly are not prepared to review this and fix it, please respect my request and refund my purchase.
Thank you

=)
still hoping this will work out for u tanya, really

gypsy,question is asking myself :
- plz read what iwrote, thats actually the reply what u askin private messge, is there in my text (here above)

- wldnt it b much better, instead of 'i As best as I can remember from five years ago' : taking y script & test it with friends ?
when acustomer like tanya says it doesnt, work, why not putting it on 'disactivate' & putting it back whenits solved?
five years ago, things change : respect for customers, kitely & y own work is someth im missing a bit here (unless i misunderstood someth?)

ps: someone read our topic, & putted a new script 'demo' on kitely market for 1dollar, im gonna bring mine in asap as i tested it more to be sure, ill give one to u tanya so ucan test it as well :) hope this helps
goodluck all :)
