Advisory: PMAC PRODUCT WARNINGS

For those of you who do not know me, I create interactive furnishings using the magnificent Paramour Multi Animation Controller, which I will refer to as PMAC for the remainder of this advisory. PMAC uses OSSL functions and enables you to have NPCs inside of your furniture without having those unsightly poseballs. The problem this presents to Merchants is that this will Generate WARNINGS because the system is looking for assets it cannot find. This is because NPCs are nothing more than an XML file with instructions for displaying a list of UUIDs. NPCs do not transfer well through hypergrid but that will NOT HARM the functionality of the PMAC product itself as long as all OSSL requirements in opensim.ini and osslEnable.ini are satisfied.

It is impractical for me to develop content on Kitely as I cannot afford a region on this grid and secondly, I posses sufficient resources to build content locally. I am prone to making mistakes so having DAILY OAR and IAR backups are essential. I am fully aware of what causes the errors as mentioned above. to work around this problem, I have provided EXTENSIVE documentation inside my PMAC product to educate my consumer on how to add their OWN NPCs to the furniture they purchase. Since I originate the content on OSGrid and I have several customers on OSGrid purchasing the product, the NPCs (which ship with the product) work as expected for OSGrid users.

So be aware that if you are designing content OUTSIDE the Kitely grid, and I am sure I am not the only person doing so, you may run into these sorts of errors. I cannot stress enough the importance of providing your consumer with adequate documentation. Thus far, I have not received ONE COMPLAINT regarding the performance of my PMAC (Please see the reviews on my product pages) furniture and customer satisfaction is my HIGHEST PRIORITY. I have been known to hand deliver NPC assets to paying customers.

I am working toward the goal of making NPCS which can be fully transferrable but it has been met with limited success. Once I find an acceptable solution, I will update this thread for the benefit of anyone who originates content outside of Kitely.

Warm Regards

Here's a suggestion that might help you hold a check stage in Kitely. I'll show the costs in KC since Merchants can use KCs earned in Kitely Market sales to pay land costs.

Costs for renting Kitely regions are always calculated pro-rata from the first day of each calendar month. So if someone starts renting a Starter World ($14.95 per full month, equivalent to 4485KC) in the last quarter of a month, at most they will pay a quarter of the monthly rental cost -- about 1120KC.

OAR backups are included as part of the rental costs; no further payments are required. So to the end of the month you can make as many OAR backups as you need.

Just before the end of the month, change the Starter World to a Stored World. The Regular Kitely account includes one free Stored World region, so you will not be charged for that.

When you next wish to test a product, towards the end of the month change that Stored World back into a Starter World.

Repeating this means you can test the products for your customers inworld and control your own costs as necessary.

As you become established, though, I would recommend renting a World continuously. Those providing services like Kitely also need their own costs paying for, and to make a reasonable living!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for offering constructive suggestions. Although Kitely Market is my SOLE means for selling merchandise, my products are made for the benefit of ANYONE on OpenSim. I have customers from Kitely, OSGrid, Metropolis, Genesis and others so having a local instance of Opensimulator software running and connected to hypergrid works out best for me. As a fledgling merchant my goal is to offer the best possible value and the only way to do that is to keep my overhead down so I can keep my prices reasonable. At this time the cost is too high for me to open a region on Kitely. For now, Merchant sandbox is my only option and OSSL does not work there. Changing region attributes within Kitely in order to thwart paying for the full month may (or may not) be permitted but it sounds like shoddy practice to me and the last thing I want is any trouble.

Kitely has always offered a great deal of flexibility in how it prices its options. In other words, this method is a continuation in the spirit of past options (I've hosted regions with Kitely for over 5 years now, so I know what I'm talking about).

"Shoddy practice" it is not -- just an illustration of Kitely's openness and willingness to price flexibly to suit different types of customers.

Why not try continuing to develop your products on your local instance, but then have a part-time Kitely world as outlined for final testing and quality assurance?

It doesn't hurt to experiment. You might be pleasantly surprised by the results.

But in the end it's your choice. Good luck whatever you decide! :)

What Dot describes is both a "pro tip" and a significant selling point for Kitely, one I cite frequently.

Hi Spax ~ I love your stuff and appreciate the content you create. If you ever feel like it, I am more than happy to provide a platform above my Wastelands. I have a 4x4 and almost 100,000 prims to still play wit and would be more than happy to give you a space to work on things without having to use the sandbox. Free of charge of course. I'll send you a message inworld also just in case you don't see this. No obligation of course, but thought I'd offer it so that you can tinker and experiment if need be. The region is called Raven's Reef and LM is in my profile if you want to check it out.

Thank you for your most generous offer and I would be delighted to discuss this further with you. I have a few things I must wrap up before I can go Kitely inworld. PM is on it's way.... and thanks to EVERYONE who is contributing here.
