Facing problems when describing our product on the market place

Post by Ramesh Ramloll »

Hello everyone,

Because of the way the product page for the Kitely market is designed, we are facing the following challenges when publishing our product. It's our first so we may not be familiar with the advanced customization possibilities of the market product page.
We are hoping that some of you can help us with some ideas on how to deal with the issue. I hope @Ilan can pitch in too.
Problem description
This product which allows a user to assemble various builds using blocks that can be stuck together quickly and comes in three variants: basic, smartblocks, and standard.
https://www.kitely.com/market/product/5 ... r=55810277
We expected, that if a user picks a particular variant from the drop down list on the right,
Say user picks basic from the drop down; then on the left, above 'see all images' ,the user would surely expect the pictures to be for this particular variant. But turns out that the pictures displayed for 'basic' are for ALL variants. So the user comes away with the expectation that the basic variant will provide the advanced functionalities, in this case the ability to add text on the fly... web pictures, textures from uuids etc....

There should be a way to set pictures specific to a particular variant. Please let us know what we may not be doing right.

With deep appreciation for the Kitely team, and the community,
Ramesh

Are these not better handled separately as Related Products via the Group option?

Hi Ramesh,

When you click on the large image in a product listing that has multiple product variations an image viewer opens. That viewer includes the images of all the variations of this product but opens displaying the first of the currently selected variation's images. You'll note that the title above the image will display the product name followed by the variation name as a link so that if the user clicks it that variation will become the selected variation. This is designed so that people can easily browse between variations and select the one they want the most.

Note that you can also add a per-image comment that will be displayed when a particular image is viewed. You can use that option to provide additional information that isn't included in the image itself, such as that such and such functionality is only included in the Smartblocks and Standard variations.

Also note Graham's comment about using the Related Products feature to create links between separate products that you expect people to want to buy together. See: https://www.kitely.com/virtual-world-ne ... ly-market/

For the Melablocks editions, it is more likely that people will want to buy one or other of them (Standard OR Basic / Smartblocks), so the Related Products option is not so relevant.

However, for some of the other RezMela apps in the pipeline, the RezMela App Store will definitely be using the Related Products feature. For example, the Octorooms app (an extremely easy-to-use, flexible, fast modular building system -- Apps @ RezMela uses some of the components if you want to catch an early glimpse of what's coming) would be matched with furniture packs or interactive text/image tools for business/education or landscaping packs or...

Not so much a problem with description but something that puts the more complex products at a disadvantage with, say, a basic mesh outfit...

The Date Created field is used for ordering and displaying "Newest" items. For complex products with multiple components, such as RezMela apps, it takes quite a bit of time to prepare them for Market -- in this case it took over a month before the product was made "live". As a result, it isn't getting the exposure it should do in the "Newest" filter.

Is it possible to make the Date Created field match the time the item is made "live"? Or is this just something to be aware of?

Hi Sue,

We made the creation date the date the merchant started creating the product listing in order to prevent gaming the sorting algorithm by creating many products in advance then strategically activating them for the first time to bump down other merchant's listings. As all products are treated the same, this is something you just need to be aware of.

I therefore suggest that if you're intending to create a complex product listing that you prepare the required images, product description, items in inventory, etc. in advance so that adding them to a new listing won't take long. Also, consider creating product ads for new product listings, those can gain top visibility for much longer than relying on Sort By Newest including your new listings on the first page. See: https://www.kitely.com/virtual-world-ne ... using-ads/
