How do I change the name on my avatar?

Hi Brenda,

You can rename your avatar in your Kitely account Settings page. Click the arrow next to your name on our website to open the menu from which you can go to that page. You'll be able to use the new name to login via the viewer after you've done that.

Please note that your viewer may cache the old name until you clear both the viewer cache and the viewer inventory cache. To do this in Firestorm open Viewer > Preferences > Network & Files > Directories and press both the "Clear Cache" button and the "Clear Inventory Cache" button; then restart your viewer and log back into Kitely and you should see the updated name. Other people who have seen you inworld may need to do the same before their viewers will show the updated name as well.

Hmm, I wonder whether this is the reason my name keeps changing back and forth from "Crash" to "Crashleigh." My original avatar name was just "Crash," which is also my account name. But when everyone kept assuming I was a biker or a racecar driver, I changed it inworld for my avatar. Ever since the big Kitely update (where everything got 2x faster), it seems to change back and forth randomly, and other people I've asked are seeing it the same way I do ... as if I'm the one changing back & forth on purpose.

The thing is, I use the Singularity viewer, so there's only one place to clear cache (under the Network tab), which I do fairly regularly. But it hasn't fixed the problem. So does this mean my name will keep randomly changing for anyone who's not in Firestorm, or are they seeing it as only "Crashleigh"? Or is there still a glitch that needs to be fixed within Kitely? I haven't changed my avatar name since 2022. But it only started changing back & forth inworld after the big update/migration thingy. I hoped it might settle down on its own, but it hasn't.

Hi Crash,

Please go to your Kitely account settings page and change your account name to match your avatar name (your account name is still "Crash McCloud"). Inworld it shouldn't matter but in some places on the Kitely website it will. Viewers get the current avatar name from a grid when they ask for it but they won't ask for it if they already have one cached for your avatar UUID.
