As per your requests, we rolled out several new Kitely Market features today:

1) Easily deliver product updates.
2) Added a way to help users of grids that have shut down.
3) Search the Kitely Market Sales History page using the name of the receiving avatar.

Thanks! I'll be using these features!
In the blog, you said this about updates:
This feature doesn’t deliver the updated product to avatars from other grids (i.e. non-Kitely avatars), because that’s very error-prone due to the many problems that can occur when communicating with other grids. The merchant can, however, send a product update to a specific non-Kitely avatar by going to the Sales History page and selecting the “Redeliver” option for that avatar.
Well, that makes it a little less usefull. I found that if I tried to update a product to a non-Kitely avatar from the sales history page, it usually does not work. It works more reliably if they happen to be logged in at the time that I update it. Then I discovered the most reliable way to deliver an update is to put the product in My Suitcase, HG to the avatars grid, and give them a copy there. This works even if they are not logged in at the time. This suggests to me that there may be an automated way of improving the reliability of deliveries. (If my avatar can do it, then a program can also do it).

Hi Kayaker,

It's trivial for us to redeliver orders directly to Kitely avatars' inventories quickly and without any issues. However, we've found that redelivery to avatars on other grids is often problematic due to changes made to those grids, or the avatars the items were brought for, since the time when the orders were originally delivered to those avatars.

Here is a list of just some of the reasons purchases to avatars on other grids may work but subsequent redelviery attempts to those same avatars may fail:

1) The other grid is now offline (permanently or temporarily during the time of the redelivery attempts).

2) The other grid's configurations have changed since the grid was verified in a way that no longer allows Hypergrid access (to any grid or just to Kitely).

3) The other grid has changed its grid URIs (either correctly or partially incorrectly in ways that only prevent some of that grid's functions from working properly).

4) The other grid changed the receiving avatar's UUID since the order was first delivered.

5) The other grid doesn't support offline IMs and the receiving avatar is not inworld to get the delivery IM our system sends as part of the Kitely Market delivery process.

6) The receiving avatar's IM inbox is full and it can't currently get the aforementioned Kitely Market delivery IM.

7) The receiving avatar has changed its viewer configuration to only allow IMs from friends and groups thus blocking the avatar from getting the aforementioned Kitely Market delivery IM.

8) There are currently issues with the other grid's asset server (mostly database related but sometimes connectivity related).

One point worth making:

The Transfer feature is designed to enable merchants to easily and reliably help people recover the items they lost when their grid went down. Delivering those items to the Kitely avatars that belong to the Kitely accounts that were used to buy those items ensures that the process will be completed successfully and without issues. Assuming the bought items were bought with transfer permissions the buyer can then go inworld, teleport with their Kitely avatar to their new grid and give the bought items to their new avatar on that grid.

In other words, the merchant can easily enable the buyer to regain access to the bought items and it then becomes the buyer's responsibility to transfer them to whatever new avatar they may have on another grid (or keep them in their Kitely avatar's inventory if they decide the stability Kitely provides is a good reason to pick Kitely as their home grid...).
