Virtual Grid for Organisations

Hi Ilan, this looks very interesting. Is there another link with more specific information? I would need this to send to our college management. Key questions would be:
1. Would you still be the overall administrator of the grid like you have been with the current arrangement? With some responsibility taken on by the college?
2. When you say 60 worlds do you mean 60 x 1 region or 60 x16 region sims?
3. Is there a price list?
4. Would payment be monthly or annual?
5. What cancellation processes would be involved?
6. What maximum avatar numbers would be allowed per world within the grid. I note the overall is 600.

Thanks Ilan.

Hi Annie,

We'll be publishing a detailed blog post about the new offering in the next few hours. It should address all your questions and more.

(I'll delete this reply and add a new one with a link to that post once it's been published)

Hi Annie,

First, please read the blog post about our new Organizations (Virtual Grids) offering.

Regarding your questions:
1) Kitely will manage all the technical aspects of running your virtual grid while you, and your fellow Organization Admins, will be able to use the Management Website we provide you to manage your users and worlds. In other words, our new offering will let you focus on the management of your organization and leave the technical details of running its grid to us.

2) The world quota of an Organization defines the maximum number of Kitely Worlds that can be managed by that Organization at any given time. Each of these worlds can be any OpenSim world type that we offer: Start World, Standard World, or Advanced World.

3) Organization accounts are created inside Kitely user accounts. You can do so from your Account Settings page or by clicking one of the banners we placed on our website and pressing the Create Organization button in the Organizations Early Bird Offer dialog you'll be shown. This will open the Create Organization dialog that includes details about our Organization types and their prices. Please note that these prices are just for having an Organization account and they don't include the cost of the worlds you add to that Organization (the cost of these worlds will be the same as if you had ordered them for use in the Kitely grid).

4) Automated payment via our website is monthly. You can contact us if you wish to pay us annually (which you should also do if you're an Israeli company, as we'll need to charge you extra for VAT).

5) You can suspend your Organization from your Account Settings page (switch it to be a Stored Organization). You can do this at any time to reduce your future monthly payments by 50%. You can also use that page to delete your Organization whenever you want. In either case, you won't receive any refund for unused periods you've already paid for.

6) Maximum avatar capacity per world is defined by the world type of that world, just like with the worlds we offer on the Kitely grid. The avatar quota of an Organization defines how many members, both Managed Users and Independent users (total combined), the Organization can have. Note that the avatar quota doesn't define how many people can enter the worlds that belong to the Organization, so those worlds can all be filled to the max with authorized users who don't belong to the Organization.

Hi Ilan, you have given this a lot of thought. I think it offers an exciting opportunity for organisations.

I have a few more questions:
1. Is the $99.95 monthly fee the normal price or the discounted 50% price?
2. If you received the 50% discount, would 50% of that 50% discount still be applied for a stored grid?
3. On the early bird blue graphic (on the Blog) it sates at the bottom "The price of the organisation doesn't include the price of the organisations worlds". Does this mean that there are additional costs to the worlds within this arrangement or are you referring to the pre-existing worlds? Let's say I use up the full 60 worlds within the Standard Organisational grid, is the cost $99.95 per month only or $99.95 plus extra costs per world within this?
4. Is it possible to migrate existing worlds into the organisational grid?

Thanks Ilan.

Hi Annie,

1) The Early Bird Offer provides a bonus to the Starter Organization's and the Standard Organization's users and worlds quotas. It doesn't provide a price discount compared to their regular prices. In other words, these options will cost the same with or without the offer but you'll get to have more users and worlds with these options now than you will if you order them later.

2) Switching an Organization to be Stored cuts its account maintenance cost to half of what you pay for that account normally. As the Early Bird Offer doesn't provide a price discount you'll get the same 50% price discount when Storing the Early Bird Standard Organization as you will when Storing a Standard Organization. Please note that this discount is not for the worlds you assign to the Organization, but those can be switched to be Stored Worlds to reduce their price when you're not using them, like you can do with our regular Kitely offering.

3) The cost of an Organization account covers the account itself, it doesn't include the cost of the worlds you assign to it. Those worlds cost the same as the worlds you can get from us without the Organization account (i.e. $14.95/month per Starter World, $19.95/month per Standard World, and $39.95/month per Advanced World). The world quotas listed in the Organization options don't provide you with free worlds, you'll still need to pay for the worlds you order like you would without an Organization account.

Organizations can, however, include worlds that are paid for by different Kitely accounts. So the Kitely account that is paying for the Organization account doesn't have to be the one paying for all the worlds assigned to that Organization. This means, for example, that a role-playing group can get an Organization account for their needs and then have individual members pay for different worlds belonging to that Organization by ordering worlds from their individual Kitely accounts and assigning them to the Organization.

4) You can assign any world in your Kitely account to any Organization you are a member of and you can reclaim it or reassign it to a different Organization at any time. You make these changes using the Advanced tab of that world's Manage World dialog. Please see the blog post I linked to in my second reply for details (and screenshots) of how this looks.
