Re: Memorial Greg Legendary
What is Community?
Today, we gathered to honor the virtual life of Gregg Legendary, a pioneer, a creator, and a friend. In real life, Gregg has passed on after battling serious health issues, and we hope that he has found peace in a better place.
Gregg was one of the founding fathers of the Antiquity community in Second Life, a visionary who helped shape the early days of virtual society. Back then, he was a virtual mogul. Later he went to InWorldz, he gained recognition for his lifelike animated animals, which brought joy to many. After InWorldz closed in 2018, he launched Discovery Grid, a thriving OpenSim world that quickly became a favorite. Eventually, he sold the grid and made his way to Kitely, where many of us came to know him.
Gregg was the kind of person who was always up for a late-night chat, and if you were in his group, you received one of his many thoughtful gifts. He had a way of making everyone feel seen.
Together with Koshari Mahana, Cooper Swizzle, and many others from across OpenSim and Kitely, including Fayre Scribe, I attended his virtual funeral in Second Life. It was nothing short of amazing. We were all blown away by the pomp and circumstance, it was spectacular. There were as many as 75 people in attendance. We couldn't believe how many people were there and couldn't help but think how happy he would have been to see it. It reminded us of the old saying: "If you build it, they will come." He built it and they came and are still coming to Antiquity 18 years later.
A Community may be the idea of an individual, but it isn't something built by one person alone, it's something we create together. And Gregg? He helped lay the bricks of a few.
