I'm inworld in the welcome center now, looking at the buffet/outdoor eating area. It's beautifully designed, but it is quite large with individual tables for 2 or 3 people spread out somewhat. If the places to sit could be brought closer together so that people will feel that they are all part of one gathering, more cosy like Amiryu was saying, that would be nice. Feel like you could "let your hair hang down" amongst friends, throwing a bit of popcorn wouldn't be frowned upon. :D

I'm sure we could find a place there that would suit the number of people who show up for any given meeting.
Here's the list of the different areas in the KWC, with the numbers of people they currently accommodate:
  • Campfire with log seating (north-east corner) -- 4 people
  • Park benches along curving pathway and around fountain -- each seats three people; a few of the benches around the fountain are close enough to hold conversations among a larger group, but this area wasn't designed for meetings
  • Mentors meeting area -- 24 people
  • Area with comfy chairs and ottomans -- 11 people
  • Area with four sets of floor cushions -- each set seats 2 or 3
  • Coffee area -- originally designed to have small group conversations round each table (3 people); will need redesigning if turned into a general informal meeting area
  • Picnic blanket -- 2 people
Don't forget that you can also sit directly on the ground anywhere that takes your fancy (right-click the ground, and choose "Sit here"). There are quite a few areas that work well for this, for example, near the kites to the south or on the grassy knoll by the World Showcase building.

If you would like to help improve any of the sitting areas, please let me know. Here's a link to the copy of the KWC used for development (it is open to the public, but not free to visit to avoid confusion with the official welcome center): http://www.kitely.com/virtual-world/Dot ... WC-stage-1

Edited to add: Here's a thread where we can discuss what might need improving and who can do the work: KWC Stage 1.3

Hmmm ...... while I really like the idea of such a place to get together informally I fear that it's not enough just to create a place with some closer seating and nice surroundings. I've been sitting for hours meanwhile at the various seating areas of the wc mostly alone and very scarcely people felt like stepping by and joining in.
While sitting together and chat is an important element, I think we need to add some more interactive options ..like the opportunity to listen to music, watch a video together ... play a game ... do a dance ... showing slides ... rezzing (smaller) builds to show & discuss them .... whatever.

Hi Paiyo,

If you're looking for company and can't find people in the Kitely Welcome Center then please go to the Public Worlds page and enter one of the worlds that are displayed at the top of that page.
