Tech Question Re: Fitted Mesh Support

Post by Tocy Sweet »

I'm wondering if there is a plan to support 'Fitted Mesh' on Kitely. I'm not technically inclined so not sure if this is something that needs to be supported inworld or if it is simply up to the viewer devs to implement. Anyone know?

Hi Tocy,

I may be wrong but I believe it's a viewer-side feature.

"The finished code was then released to the public, under an LGPL license, so that it can be used in any third party viewer."

"According to Daeschler, the code is already being integrated into the Kokua, Cool VL and Firestorm viewers. To use the deformer, users simply need to download the updated versions of these viewers — no additional work is required on the part of the grid owners."

Hope that helps! :D

Hey guys. From my understanding, SL is not moving forward with the deformer but moving forward with 'Fitted Mesh" which uses collision bones. They are adding new bones to the skeleton. I 'think' that the viewers need to point to a new skeleton file once it is released. I'll try to find more info on that and hopefully post a link. It would be cool to not have to make several sizes for mesh clothing in future! :)

As far as I know, animations can target any number of bones, and a mesh can support any number of bone targets , so theoretically we can have very varied avatars if the right group of people make them :)

Proper conforming mesh is fascinating and uses clever tricks :) not sure how it would joijn though, heh. (Shirt and trousers style)

PS. Kitely is awesome.
