The May report on OpenSim statistics from Hypergrid Business has just been published.

During this month, Kitely's land area increased by 356 standard region equivalents to a total of 11,805, retaining its place as the second largest OpenSim grid.

Tyche Shepherd's Second Life Grid Survey reports the number of SL private regions between 17 April and 15 May as follows (the number for 8 May is from Tyche's summary post on SLUniverse), a net loss of 35 regions:

Code: Select all

2016-04-17	17514
2016-04-24	17506 (-8)
2016-05-01	17505 (-1)
2016-05-08	17482 (-23)
2016-05-15	17479 (-3)
Kitely's land area is now 67.5% of the current land area of SL private regions.

The June 2016 report on OpenSim statistics was published a few days ago in Hypergrid Business. I've delayed updating this thread until Tyche Shepherd's SL grid update came out for 19 June.

During May/June, Kitely's land area increased by 427 standard region equivalents to a total of 12,232.

Tyche Shepherd's Second Life Grid Survey reports the number of SL private regions between 15 May and 19 June as follows, a net loss of 49 regions:

Code: Select all

2016-05-15	17479
2016-05-22	17490 (+11)
2016-05-29	17479 (-11)
2016-06-05	17476 (-3)
2016-06-12	17438 (-38)
2016-06-19	17430 (-8)
The land area on Kitely grid has reached 70.18% of the land area of SL private regions.

If current trends continue, Kitely's land area will match that of SL private regions in about a year's time.

As you may have seen from my latest post summarising Hypergrid Business's July statistics results for Kitely, the grid has again increased in land area -- by 376 standard region equivalents since 18 June 2016.

In contrast, as reported by Tyche Shepherd's Second Life Grid Survey the number of SL private regions between 19 June and 17 July dropped from 17430 to 17283, a loss of 147 regions (three times the number lost in the previous month).

In the six months since 17 January 2016, Kitely's land area has grown from 10,507 regions to 12,608, an increase of 2,101 regions. SL's private regions have decreased in number from 17,749 to 17,283, a decrease of 466 regions.

Kitely's land area is now 72.95% of the land area of SL's private regions.

Another month has gone by, and HGB's OpenSim statistics report for July/August has just been published. The summary of Kitely's statistics shows that the land area of the grid has increased in size by 303 standard region equivalents since 17 July 2016, to a total of 12911 standard region equivalents.

Tyche Shepherd's Second Life Grid Survey tracks many statistics, including different categories of land area. The number of SL private regions (the closest category to Kitely's regions) between 17 July and 14 August decreased from 17283 to 17155, a loss of 128 regions.

Kitely's land area is now just over three-quarters (75.26%) of the land area of SL's private regions.

In the past week, HGB's August/September report on OpenSim statistics was published; here's a summary of Kitely's statistics. There are now 13142 standard region equivalents on Kitely, an increase of 231 over the month.

Tyche Shepherd's SL Grid Survey reports that, from 14 August to 18 September, the number of private estate regions changed from 17155 to 17109, a decrease of 46 regions.

This makes Kitely's land area 76.81% of the land area covered by SL's private estate regions.

Very happy to see this sort of growth by Kitely, and sad to see it in SL in one respect, but not in another. Does Kitely have any plans to assemble any continents like the SL grid has?

Continents wouldn't work in an on-demand system like Kitely, where regions are fired up only when avatars want to visit them.

Except the welcome region, which could, technically, be a larger always on landmass.

The other thing to consider about continents is that under the current SL/OS tech, they just don't work very well. There is a reason the mainland in SL is pretty much abandoned. Performance and Privacy.

According to Hypergrid Business's October OpenSim statistics report, over the past month Kitely grid has again shown a substantial growth in land area: it is up by 452 to 13,594 standard region equivalents (an increase of 3.44% over the month).

Tyche Shepherd's SL Grid Survey reports that, from 18 September to 16 October, the number of private estate regions changed from 17,109 to 17,059, a decrease of 50 regions.

In other words, over the past month, for every single private region lost from SL, Kitely's land area gained 9 new regions.

Kitely's land area is now just under four-fifths (79.69%) of the land area covered by SL's private estate regions.

Over the year from 17 January, SL's private estates have gone from 17,749 to 17,059, a decrease of 690 regions (3.89% decrease), while Kitely's land area has increased from 10,507 to 13,594, an increase of 3087 regions (29.38% increase).
